  1. I admired her in 1973 when I first saw a documentary on her work. I wanted to work with animals, too.
As an adult, I came to admire her calm demeanor and dedication to her ideals.
    A shero for sure! 😊

  2. My only issue with her was a statement she made without thinking. In an interview, she thought the world population should be reduced to 1600 levels (or something similar).

Unfortunately, to get to that year’s population level, 90% of the people today would have to be eliminated.

  3. In the natural way we’ll all be eliminated sooner or later. The smart trick is just not to print out too many copies of ourselves before our time comes. We could get to that level, with no cruelty or war or starvation or coercion of any kind, if we were just a /little bit/ smarter.

    • True–we can use self-control to control the population level, but that is wrought with issues.

For instance, look at China. They went with a “one child” policy decades ago; since boys are treasured (as they are expected to take care of their parents when Mom and Dad get old), many girls were aborted. Now they have a shrinking population and not enough women for the men so the couples can add to the population.
