Jackpot

Las vegasNed was down on his luck in Las Vegas. He had gambled away all his money and had to borrow a dime from another gambler just to use the men’s room. The stall happened to be open, so he used the dime in a slot machine and hit the jackpot. He took his winnings and went to the blackjack table and turned his small winnings into ten million dollars.

Wealthy beyond his wildest dreams, Ned went on the lecture circuit, where he told his incredible story.

He told his audiences that he was eternally grateful to his benefactor, and if he ever found the man he would share his fortune with him. After months of lectures, a man in the audience jumped up and said,

“I’m that man. I was in Vegas in 1992. I was the one who gave you the dime.”

“You’re not the one I’m looking for. I’m looking for the guy who left the stall door open!”

Riding to Milwaukee this weekend

Forecast Milwaukee2We’re heading out for Milwaukee Thursday morning.  The forecast is for rain in St. Louis and it looks like it’s going  to follow us all the way up there.  The green on the map is rain.  (Light and dark green that is)

It’s 375 miles from St. Louis to Milwaukee.  This is the direct way up I-55 from St. Louis.  I’m not sure if we’re going straight up there or if we’ll divert to the Chicago area on the way.

Our main destination is the new Harley Davidson Museum in Milwaukee.

Anybody know any good places to eat or special sights you’d recommend… particularly in the Milwaukee area?   We’re also thinking about Galena Illinois and/or Gary Indiana.  I guess it all depends on the weather, how far we’ll stray from the direct route.  (Who knows, I might even chicken out and take the car.)

I’ll try to post in the evenings.   We should be home Sunday night.

Corpse kept upright for 3-day wake

Corpse1A Puerto Rican man has been granted his wish to remain standing – even in death.
A funeral home used a special embalming treatment to keep the corpse of 24-year-old Angel Pandora Medina standing upright for his three-day wake.
Dressed in a Yankees baseball cap and sunglasses, Pantoja was mourned by relatives while propped upright in his mother’s living room.
His brother Carlos told the El Nuevo Dia newspaper the victim had long said he wanted to be upright for his own wake: ‘He wanted to be happy, standing.’
The owner of the Marin Funeral Home, Damaris Marin, told The Associated Press the mother asked him to fulfill her dead son’s last wish.
Pantoja was found dead Friday underneath a bridge in San Juan and buried Monday. Police are investigating.
