Redheads take more anesthesia to numb or put under than non redheads. It’s due to a mutation in the MC1R gene. This gene controls skin and hair pigment, it also affects brain and spinal cord pathways that manage pain and sedation.
When I go to the dentist and they can’t numb me, they always ask if my natural color is red. It’s not, but they have to treat me as if it is. I’m almost positive it comes from my Scottish ancestry.
Sometimes it does hurt.
I tell people what I’m taking everyday for my normal drug regimen, and they asked me how I’m even alive and functional. That’s what it takes just to make me functional everyday
