Fewer and fewer of us know what this is, much less lived it.
Bought a used 4-8 track player in the very early 70’s. Still got it for nostalgia’s sake but all the tapes degraded over the years even the ones I re-recorded onto cassettes. One if the best ones was one i had to repair of Paul Revere and the Raiders but I reeled quite a bit of the tape back in backwards. Sounded really funny.
I still miss them. The way they felt, and using them. Touchscreens and touchbuttons are all wrong, in a car.
The physical buttons are much easier than a screen to use when having to keep one’s eyes on the road.
Music, music, music, kerchunk, music, music. I remember that well. Bought a few albums and there was no kerchunk between tracks. Something was missing. That was a typical 8-track. If you had one in your car in High School you were cool until cassette came along.
