But truly true.
IT starts with an insurance statistician Frederick Hoffman who actively promoted “racial extinction theory”. Hoffman argued that Black Americans were physically inferior and destined for a “gradual extinction”, claiming that providing healthcare to Black citizens would actually work against the “natural order” by allowing the “weak” to survive.
From there, the thought process has been preventing Blacks from getting the same thing as white people. This racial division fundamentally shaped Medicare when it was passed in 1965. To appease southern politicians who didn’t want poor Black southerners showing up at all-white hospitals, the law included a 20% “deductible and copay gap” (Medicare Part B). The financial bar was set intentionally high to deter low-income Black Americans from accessing care.
That racial animus and the resistance to government-funded programs that “help everyone” were key drivers of the opposition to any public health expansions, including ObamaCare.
If you still have any doubt to these facts, then think how conservatives lie about undocumented people getting social security, welfare and food stamps. They say that because they know the racists don’t want non-white people getting the same benefits. Or when they always use the dog whistle of “welfare queens” and such. It’s all playing to the racists hate of anybody not like them, getting the same thing.
It’s almost like they believe human rights are a pie. If rights are given to everybody, then there are less rights for whites.
It’s not a smear when it’s true.
If you don’t like that analogy, here’s another: the “Gold Principle” is the misguided belief that gold is finite, and that any gold you have is gold I didn’t get, nevermind that I have my own gold and didn’t want the particular kind of gold you got.
That “gold” is anything: housing, employment, automobiles, sex, etc.
As human beings, we shouldn’t begrudge anyone reaching for gold. We should begrudge those who hoard it.
