Don’t knock the draft. A draft becomes a war deterrent. A draft makes war more personal and citizenry less receptive to conflict. If the military is not your thing, civil service needs to be the other option. Either one allows for people to get out in the real world plus by including a paid education for either service. It helps create a more rounded educated person.
Why would Hegseth institute a draft? 18-year-old men have had to sign up for the selective service for about 60 years or so–and now it is automatic.
