Being as most ‘assault weapons’ are just a glorified .22 more suitable for small game, and well suited for those, the ludicrous display shown here is the joke, not the use of them in hunting, for larger game they’re illegal in most places because they’re underpoiwered. Where’s the ‘journalist’ who reported on firing a single round from an AR-15 and promptly suffering PTSD from the ‘brutal recoil’ and ‘deafening report’, while a seven year old girl unloaded an entire magazine from her ‘hello kitty’ pink carbine two stalls down…
that “Glorified .22” is a considerably higher velocity, weight, and powder load than your run-of-the-mill squirrel plinker. that caliber is issued to the united states military and SWAT teams for maximum takedown of a target. Depending on the jacket, the exit hole can be up to nine times the entry hole, taking out chunks of flesh in a combat situation.

The .223 was developed from the .222, a ‘varmint’ round, they’re pretty much identical. Humans are a lot easier to kill than most animals. Depending on the jacket a .30-06, a common hunting cartride nobody is screaming is over powered, can make an exit wound ten times the 5.56’s. It was also the round chambered in military rifles and machineguns in WW1, 2, Korea, and even in Vietnam…the 7.62 MG’s and some ‘assault rifles’ are chambered in today is a shortened .30-06, a couple of hundred fps slower, maybe, depending on the load, sometimes it’s faster.
From a legal point of view, just about anything can be an assault weapon.
For instance, if you hit someone with a stapler and get arrested, the stapler is the assault weapon.
shhhh!!!!! not so loud – it’ll get banned!!!!
Or get you shot. The media went foolish over someone attacking an RCMP officer with a ‘stapler’ in a customs office…and never once mentioned that it was one of the very large, very heavy office staplers that when hinged open is as effective as a medeival flail and could easily cave someone’s skull in…he was shot for his efforts and could have avoided that by not swinging it at the Officer while advancing on him.
According to the story the term “Assault Rifle” was coined by Hitler for the smaller cartridge using fully automatic rifle developed by the Germans and later copied by other countries.
