Well, you are financially responsible for any and all damage to whatever you rent from U-Haul, so they may not care.
What I like is most truck rentals like U-Haul offer insurance that covers everything but the roof. In and around NYC, there are parkways that have low clearances–one I am familiar with has a 9-foot clearance. And most rental trucks are taller than 9 feet, so I have seen on 3 occasions some idiot taking a rental truck on that parkway, hitting the 9 foot overpass, and peeling part or all of the roof off the truck.
