Inside the scoreboard

My friend Bob in Kansas City was at the Royals game Saturday night.  Through some connections he has with friends he got access into the scoreboard control room and broadcast booth and took some pictures with his iPhone.  Here are a couple of them.

All these TV are used to show what is being shown on the scoreboard and what is coming up to show.  A director calls out what to switch to, just like you see in movies when they are doing a television show.  There is constant activity.

Thanks Bob

Free wheeling

This is one very lucky cop

A big rig trailer lost one of its tires on a freeway. The tire went rolling at over fifty miles an hour down the freeway coming only the width of a cops gun holster from killing him.

Thanks Ben

Mud Volleyball

MVB1We had a great day yesterday at our Mud Volleyball Tournament.  The temperature hit 97°F and we felt every degree.  It wasn’t too bad if you were in the shade, which I tried to be most of the time.

We had 48 teams playing on four courts.  This is our 25th annual mud volleyball tournament.  So, we’re old pros at this.  We fine tune things each year, but it’s pretty much run the same all those years.  We went through about 20 half barrels of beer for the 425 people we had attending.  The last game ended at 8:25 pm, which is later than ever for us.  It was too dark to play any more.  We’ll work on making the games shorter or go faster next year.

We raised over $1400 for the Evangelical Children’s Home in St. Louis from our Silent Auction.  Final numbers aren’t in for the whole event, but thing we did pretty good for our organization too.  It was a great day, but we were exhausted.

I’m hoping to put together a video too.  If I get it done I’ll post it here too.

All The Way To The Edge Of The World

B&P reader Maoman has asked me to pass along this video his friend Juan Roger’s made.  He’s a pianist and he’s trying to get as many views of his video to win a contest.  It’s not half bad.
