We Scour the Web, so You Don't Have To!
The culmination of Soviet experiments, the 380-ton Lun was classed as an ekranoplan—a ground-effect vehicle most at home up to 16 feet in the air, its eight turbofan engines hurtling it along at 340 mph. It entered service in 1987 but the collapse of the Soviet Union led to the project’s abandonment in the 1990s.
Last weekend, Granddaughter Logan was coaching a soccer tournament, so we took the weekend to travel and catch some soccer!
On Friday morning, Krisgo and I got to the Peabody Hotel in Memphis in time to see the ducks come down the elevator and walk the red carpet to the fountain in the lobby. Logan, Joe and Sammy were saving us a chair at the table as the lobby was filling up fast. The Duck Master explained that this tradition started in the early 1900’s and has continued everyday at 11:00AM when the ducks come down from the roof, swim in the fountain all day and return to the roof via elevator at 5:00PM.
After leaving we explored the Bass Pro pyramid on the riverfront. This is the largest Bass Pro Shop in the world, and also has the largest free-standing elevator right in the center. The pyramid use to be a basketball arena before Bass Pro bought the building.
After having lunch with the Grandkids near Beale street, Krisgo and I went to the Botanical Gardens of Memphis to visit their Troll display throughout the park. Read about the display HERE. It was very neat – we really enjoyed it!
Dave and Staci came down also and we all met for lunch at Central BBQ – where ‘smoke is our sauce’ – very good!
Saturday and Sunday were Soccer tournament days. We watched my Granddaughter Logan and her friend Sammy coach their team to victory. It was chilly and super windy!!
