Baby tossed form building fire

Babyjx9 This is the amazing moment a baby was thrown from the upper story of a fire-ravaged building – and caught by a hero rescue worker.

Nine people, including five children, were killed in the fire in a house in the western German city of Ludwigshafen.

A further 24 were taken to hospital, two of whom were in a life-threatening condition – and it is possible that more bodies will be found in the house, which was in danger of collapse, a police spokesman said.

It was unclear what had caused the fire, the spokesman said, adding that 52 people, mostly Turkish citizens, were registered as living in the house.

The number of fatalities could have been higher had a group of police, firemen and other emergency service personnel not been celebrating carnival nearby, the spokesman said.

They helped catch children thrown from the upper floors of the building.

Tacoma Narrows Bridge collapse

The Tacoma Narrows Bridge is a pair of mile-long suspension bridges in the U.S. state of Washington, which carry State Route 16 across the Tacoma Narrows between Tacoma and the Kitsap Peninsula. The first bridge opened to traffic on July 1, 1940 and became famous four months later for a dramatic wind-induced structural collapse that was caught on motion picture film. The original span’s resonance earned it the nickname Galloping Gertie. Here is some incredible footage of that collapse.

Last night’s what?

From Stewart P:

As you probably know, Australian Rules (Aussie Rules) is very big in Australia – rivalries are pretty tense, especially towards finals time.

This is a scan from the local newspaper in Hobart, Tasmania in 2005 after a significant upset in the semi finals.

Someone’s last day at work I suspect 🙂

Crazy weather here in St. Louis

Temp in stlYesterday was one of those crazy weather days here in St. Louis. I had to run a couple of errands after getting off work about 2:30 yesterday. It was so nice out. The temperature was 73° degrees (F). I thought about getting Charlotte (my Harley) out whern I got home and taking a little ride. Then things started to change. And I mean rapidly change. By the time I got home… an hour or so later the temop had dropped to about 40°F and it was raining. Within another hour it was snowing. The temp was 20°F by 5 pm. It got down to 13° overnight.

We only got a dusting of snow, but a winter storm is predicted for tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon and night. They’re talking anywhere from 4–10 inches when it’s all said and done. I’ll be glad when it’s done.

You just never know….

Watch the man on the left walking, crossing the road where there is no car.
It is so definite that the coast on the left is clear, and safe to cross. Any person would see it is safe….

Take nothing for granted, not even for a split second! Be grateful for every living minute.
