Got home from Florida last night and I found my bailout check had arrived in the mail.

I’ve had a couple of suggestions that I should have a donation link where happy readers could make a donation to help keep Bits & Pieces thriving. So, I’ve done that as you can see on the right. It is set up so anyone can “buy me a beer”…. or a six pack or 12 pack if they’re feeling generous…. or drunk. (Prices may vary.) It’s done through PayPal.
I tried to test it by giving myself a donation, but it won’t let me make a donation from my own account. It looks like it should work, but I’m not sure. I guess I’ll find out if someone makes a donation. I am getting might thirsty here!
Seriously, please don’t feel obligated to do this. It’s just available for those who feel inclined to use it. I do appreciate it along with all the kind words I’ve received. Thanks!
B&P blog update
Thanks for your patience while I fiddle with the new theme for Bits & Pieces. I’m still tweaking here and there. I just haven’t had the time to work on it too much yet. I was having trouble with the Google ads…. I couldn’t see them on my computer screen, but I understand they’re visible to the rest of the world. On my old theme I could see the ads just as you could.
There are lots of widgets available for this theme, so I may be trying some of them out when I get the time.
As of now we have 16 rotating header logos, all submitted by you guys. I’m not sure if I’ll select from one final logo or have a few that rotate. I actually like having the variety, but I’m not sure how it will end up. So if you’d like to submit one, there’s still time.

Playing with Themes – Please stand by

Update: OK kids. I think I’m going to like this theme. It’s very adaptable…once I figure out how to adapt it. A few things:
- The logo (header) will alternate between several that have been submitted so far. Thanks to all who submitted them. (I received one that I couldn’t read so it’s not included. I’ll add more as they come in… if they come in.)
- Ads: I’m working on getting the ads to appear (a necessity)
- Mugshots: I added a page for the mugshots that you requested. (Link at top of page or bottom of sidebar) I just added the first few that I received a while back. I think I’ll post them alphabetically by screen name. I’ll add more as time allows. (It’s time consuming because I have to manually add the pictures.) Please be patient. I want to make sure the theme will work before I spend too much time on that page.
- Old B&P: I put the link to the first B&P in the “About Bits & Pieces” page.
- Recent Comments: Now you can glance to the right and see if there are any new comments and read a little of the latest ones.
- Favicon: I’ve added a favicon to the page. I tried using one with the arch that I designed, but it didn’t work. This tiny pic of me seemed to work though. So that’s it for now.

B&P changes? New theme and new logo?
I’m thinking about changing the theme on B&P. I’ve had a request to “Please change the marquee and colors and the outdated stuff”. I’ve started looking at new themes and I might try one out in the next few days.
Since my t-shirt printer hasn’t started on my shirts yet, perhaps I should think about a new logo for the site too.
So, if anyone is interested in submitting a design idea I’d be open to looking at it. By viewing a sample of the theme I’m considering I’ve determined that the logo needs to be about 941 pixels wide and 151 pixels high.
I don’t want it to be too complex, so don’t spend too much time on it. I’m partial to including the Arch in it but that’s not mandatory. It should have the title “Bits & Pieces” and the tagline: “We scour the web so you don’t have to.”
So, if anyone wants to submit an idea send it to: [email protected] … preferably in a .jpeg format.

This just amazes me. I checked a couple other sites that I think are more popular than B&P and it rates them a fourth as valuable. I know people like B&P, but $212,000 ???

B&P confession
Up to this point I have read ALL the comments submitted to B&P posts. It’s numbering into the hundreds every day now. (I see them differently that you do, they’re in chronological order, not by posts.) I just don’t have the mental energy to keep reading all the hate being spewed forth in some of the political comments. Many, maybe even most are well written but completely one-sided (and not necessarily one side or the other). They just reek of political bias and hatred and that’s not what I created B&P for. No one is going to change someone else’s political opinions with a comment here. Contrary to popular belief YOU are not always right.
But, I have to admit, my eyes have been opened and my mind stimulated by many comments on many different posts and I thank you all for that. But I can’t… and won’t continue to read these ongoing slams about how awful one person is and how wonderful someone else is…unless they’re speaking of me of course :-).
I’ve thought about disabling comments, but I don’t want to do that. You guys are what makes B&P fun…well, most of you anyway.
So, for now, I’ll just skim over as much of the negativity as I can and still try to keep the spam out. If something slips by me that is spam I’m counting on you guys to let me know and I’ll delete it.
I will continue to focus on the things I find humorous and interesting to me. Of course, some of that will be political… but if it’s funny I’ll post it no matter what political persuasion it bites. If you find it offensive, just wait, something will probably come along soon that swings in the other direction. If not too bad.
I also want to say a special thanks to people like Mike F, DJ, Scott, Infidel, Bella, Bitscared, KLAW, heehee, Gary and many others for their humorous input. I know I forgot some other regular contributors, but these in particular seem to make me laugh more than normal… and for that I thank you.
