A B&P reader who is not happy

I received the following email from a “former” B&P reader named David:

I have subscribed to your blog via Google News Reader for quite sometime, it has always been good for some humor.  But today I am unsubscribing due to the one-sided bashing of Sarah Palin and John McCain.  No one goes to your website for politics, and I have not seen one parody of Obama or Biden.  You political biases are strikingly evident to all who read your website.

Since David is no longer a reader I’ll just address this to anyone who feels the same way.

Sorry bout that.  I just haven’t seen near as much funny stuff about Obama and Biden to publish.   I’ll be happy to post other funny things about Obama if you point me to them or if I run across them.

I’d say the majority of the things I post are humorous, but I post other things that I find interesting for one reason or another.

It just goes to show you can’t please everybody…. and that’s OK.  Maybe David will come back after the election.  Of course he’ll occasionally find humorous posts about the new president, whoever it is.

    i will agree there’s not nearly the amount of content for Obama/Biden than there is for McCain/Palin…and that’s a bummer. i’m always up for funny stuff.

    if we can’t laugh at ourselves, who are we to laugh at?

  3. Wow! I always thought your posts seemed more conservative than liberal. And I definitely lean towards the left myself. Knowing that you are always about just presenting things you think are interesting and funny, and completely secure in my own opinions I wouldn’t let that ever dissuade me from visiting one of THE BEST collections of clever stuff on the web! Not visiting It is totally HIS loss, not yours. Keep up the great work. I visit every day (OK, OK, actually more like 4 times a day), and I can’t see that ever changing!

  7. If they’re “subscriber”, they sure don’t read all of your posts. I’VE been reading for a long time and you’ve always seemed pretty fair in your posts, particularly when you comment that a particular joke could easily be about the opposition.

  8. This guy is a little too sensitive. Even if you did favor Obama, so what? It’s your blog and, as a conservative, I find it funny and enjoyable. As for finding anti-Obama humor, I see quite a lot of it, you must not be looking very hard.

  9. I agree with David. I think you ought to refund all our money. And then you ought to post only those things that we like. And then you ought to come over to our houses and pull the corner of our mouths up so we don’t have to move a muscle to smile.

    Where in the hell do you get off running this blog like you own it or something? Look at all the time and effort David puts into this site and I’m sure you’ll change your mind and let him censor those things he doesn’t want.

    Damn, Jon, I’ll need some very expensive therapy after this.

  11. It’s your personal website, it’s not like he’s required to read it. I honestly wouldn’t have bothered with his e-mail to the extent you did. I would have just deleted it and moved on. People like him are what’s wrong with the world, they just don’t know how to laugh. They act like the whole world’s after them.

  13. It never ceases to amaze me that people can be blind to something that is right in front of them. You have been equal in your postings as far as I have seen.

    Additionally, a blog is a lot like a tv or radio. If you don’t like what you see or hear, turn it off. I seriously doubt anybody was sticking a toothpick in his eyelids and forcing him to look at your webpage. I guess it just goes to show that some people are like diapers. Always on your ass, and always full of shit.

    I’ve always thought this was a pretty balanced site – Dem stuff, Repub stuff, funny stuff, serious stuff, educational stuff, and gross stuff.

    And hey…what about Mike F’s idea…refunding all our money?

  23. I’ve always thought you were pretty balanced…but of course, that’s coming from an Obama supporter (I’m trying to coin the term Obama-naut, btw), so I may just not be seeing it.

    Also I do agree that by and large, there are just more jokes being published out there that are anti-McCain. It’s not your fault that the blogs/sites you scour post what they post and thereby dictate what you post. You’re only given so much to work with, and I’ve thought you’ve done a damn fine job. I’ve even laughed at the anti-Obama stuff since I’ve, y’know, GOT a sense of humor (and I don’t personally know the guy, so I don’t feel the need to fight about it).

    …anyway…my feeling is that you should keep up the good work. People will like what they like and hate what they hate. In an election year, you’ve GOT to make election jokes. People will hate it. As the Internets say, “Meh.”

    When I first ran across something political I considered not posting it, but it was too funny. Then I ran across more and more, and I just couldn’t NOT share the things I found that made me laugh. I have NOT posted some things that I felt were just vicious with no sarcastic or humorous value in them. Some of the sites I get things from are definitely one-sided and no where near “fair and balanced”, but I do find little gems there now and then.

  28. No great loss there! I don’t understand any of your US politics but the media will always show the embarrassing mistakes etc. the each candidate makes. All we see on this side of the world is footage of your President, McCain and Palin! It is hard to keep things even when Obama will give you so little!!!
    Above all else, it is your blog! Post what you want! We love it!!!!!!

    You are posting politically slanted humor right now, because that’s what’s in
    the news right now. I’ve been reading you for years and you always post

  37. I thought a blog is about your opinion and last I checked (although, it is getting difficult to tell) we still have the right to free speech. In addition, I do not believe there is a rule that says your blog must give both or multiple sides of the issue. It gives one side of the issue (yours) If you want to be one sided on your blog, you should be. BTW, I agree with Fenwic. I always thought your posts leaned more to the conservative side. Keep up the good work. I love your blog

  39. I have to say I was a little offended myself. Not because the fact that it’s not humorous to poke fun at the election, or the candidates themselves, but the fact that some of it is just misogynistic, and in poor taste.
    I say that for both sides. Show some respect for women.
    It is not emotional or extreme, it’s just not right.

  40. First of all, I believe in a freedom of speech, free market, yada yada yada (that’s for all you Seinfeld fans). This is a blog…make it as left wing as you want. Post stuff about conspiracy theories about how we never landed on the moon. Put whatever you want. One thing I have noticed in general about jokes about the candidates (everywhere, across the board) is that they tend to be more “cutting” towards McCain. McCain jokes tend to point towards him being old, decrepit, corrupt, wearing a diaper…you get the point. Obama’s tend to call him a liberal (ouch!), showing him trying to act ghetto (ooohh!), or really just making fun of people who follow him/democrats (that hurts!). Now I’m saying these are the jokes out there. I laugh my butt off at the McCain/Palin jokes as hard as I laugh at the Obama/Biden jokes. The more you look at the amount of and caustic nature of McCain/Palin jokes, you do see a disparity. Does it annoy me…a little. But they’re funny, and they’re what’s out there. I still think David needs to grow a pair and go make his own blog if he likes. Stop hatin on da B&P!
