Depends on the distance to travel and the costs.
More than a 5-hour drive, then it makes sense to fly.
I cut that off closer to 8 hours because traffic to and from the airport, airport security hassles; ‘arrive 2 hours early’, gotta get a rental car; gotta deal with checked baggage or greatly reduce how much you can travel with AND – I can often find something interesting to do somewhere along the route that I might completely miss if I flew.
I had to go to Chicago twice a year for work over the past 10 years (from Atlanta) – that is about a 12 hour drive or a 2+ hour flight. however since I live north of Atlanta I would have needed to drive over an hour each way to and from the airport, (probably closer to 1.5 hours since it would have been ‘rush hour’. – That certainly seems like flying would be the better option however I almost always drove so I could detour and do something interesting along the way. for instance I visited several distilleries in Kentucky, toured the air museum in Dayton Ohio, went to Mammoth Cave; spent a weekend in Nashville; toured the toyota assembly plant in Georgetown Ky; visited churchill downs in Louisville and toured the churchill downs museum; went by a big horse park north of Lexington; – would have missed all of that if I had just flown in a sardine tin every time.
Did you ever stop at the whiskey museum in Bardstown, KY? I was working near there once and it was an interesting lunch break.
I went to the heaven hill boubon experience 2 months ago (also swung by willett and the bardstown distilleries).
I’ve been to the Frazier Museum in Louisville but I think you are referring to the Oscar Getz museum in Bardstown. Have not been to that one.
how many times do you fly per week? how many times do you drive per week? pretty sure most people drive way more often than they fly.
