friday firesmith – the fool and his pool

A Tragedy on “The Strait of Warm-Ooze”

Trump gave a no bid contract to a donor to redo the Reflecting Pool and turned them loose with no oversight.

Had this all been done in a reasonable manner nothing would have ever been said about it. Had  the contract been let through normal channels, had the contractor been reputable, had the work not been “done by my birthday” and had process been held in higher regard than personality, we would not be talking about this.

But no.

It had to be done by the biggest White Trash Event in American history. It had to be done the way that Trump wanted it to be done, and when he wanted, and how he wanted, and that, my friends, is the problem and nothing else.

The problem was caused by one man wanting things his way and he got it. The solution was also his, and because everyone knows he doesn’t like to be told no, staffers were pouring gallons of Hydrogen Peroxide into the pool and clearly, that didn’t work. It actually made things worse, which is also something Trump is famous for.

But things went south in a bigly way. The algae bloom turned the pool a sickly color green usually associated with horror movies and Ghost Busters. That was bad enough. But the “American Flag Blue” paint that the pool was painted on Trump’s demand, began to peel away. Hydrogen Peroxide is a paint stripper, it seems. But it got even uglier. The seal that Trump wanted in the pool began to disintegrate and come loose.

Trump did what Trump does. He at first blamed Obama, who hasn’t been in office in a decade. He then blamed Biden.

Then came the photos of the Trump motorcade riding in the pool before it was filled with water. I’m not sure what sort of sealant or paint they used, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t designed for vehicle traffic.

Having no traction with blaming former presidents, Trump then went deep and declared “Antifa” did it, and arrested people who were doing more than taking giant flakes of paint out of the pool.

Then came the fences and razor wire to protect the green pond from terrorists.

All of this, every moment of this disaster has been paid for by taxpayers. And it’s just beginning. The damage has to be reversed. In a just and true world, the contractor would be on the hook for repairs. But in Trump World, the taxpayers pick up the tab for every whim and every mistake.

Had this not been “on time for my birthday” the process would have worked itself out. And even if issues had arisen, again, the contractor would have to pay.

But Trump will make you pay again, and again, and again, for his mistakes and vanity.

Take Care,

Mike

Admin note: Does anyone else think the pool contractor looks like a movie villain?

  1. And still the Trumpers and Fox News afficionados can’t have the world view of a tape worm living blissfully in DJT’s bowels. They love that shite.

  2. That’s not the only monument he’s destroyed. The Whitehouse and the national parks come to mind. The tax payers will have to pay for it all, we all know he’s never had to take accountability for anything. The damage he’s done will last far beyond his terms in office and I dare say, beyond his lifetime. Are we great again?

  3. The White House is government property. It is owned by the United States federal government and held in the public trust for the American people.
Why was he allowed to tear down the east wing?

    • The White House belongs to trump, he can do whatever he wants (Such as The Capitol j6). The American people work for trump. It is what voters wanted, they got it.

      • Doug, unfortunately, you are correct. They wanted Trump. They got Trump. Now we’re stuck with him until Congress grows a pair.

  4. In 2013 Obama spent $34 million and 2 years renovating the reflecting pool. Two of the things Obama had done were to make the pool shallower (which increases the waters temperature increasing the algae growth). And it was also modified to draw water off of a local tidal basin (which also has algae in it). One month after Obama’s renovation it was full of algae. But don’t take my word for it research it yourself.

    • Did Obama lie about it? Did he blame Antifa? Did he arrested bystanders? Did he drive a motorcade through the bottom while the work was being done? Did he blame previous presidents? Did he put up a fence with razor wire?

Did the Mexicans pay for that fence?

    • “were to make the pool shallower (which increases the waters temperature increasing the algae growth).”

So, none of the fix was to alter that specific problem you point out. Rather, it was to paint it blue, which absorbs more light and thus increase algae production. In the end, it was a superficial “fix” that was a failure before it even began because it negated an important issue that wasn’t even attempted to resolve. One can blame the shallower pool, but this change was made by the National Park Service to save millions of gallons of water annually. And we all know how the people believe the government spends too much money. Can’t have it both ways, MrHappy.

If you ever saw a birdbath one would see algae in there, because one, they’re shallow and two, when especially sitting in a hot environment, it creates a happy home for it to grow. Hence, the birdbath owner having to regularly dump out the stagnant water and refill it on a regular basis.

It should be noted, the Interior Department stated that algae and other contaminants have long plagued the Reflecting Pool since 1922. So, blaming the drawing of water from the tidal basin is pointless and simply negates that the design from the beginning was flawed. Conceptually, the reflecting pool is meant to be still, which in of itself, creates an environment ripe for algae in addition to the hot temperatures in the city. Thus, unless they were to disrupt the concept of it, a circulating system with a filter similar to a pool would need to be installed that would both move the water and clean out contaminants. Instead, Mango Mussolini, took the cheapest route, which is his M.O., surely skimmed off a bunch of money for himself, thinking he was a genius, without actually understanding the issue at all.
