    • The only reason can think of is to avoid the graphite particles from the regular pencils getting lodged into the colored pencil’s different colored centers. Can’t see why that would be a big problem though.

      • colored pencils are wax based, and graphite will adhere to the wax and render it unusable – Using the same sharpener can lead to broken tips, clogged mechanisms, and unwanted color smudging onto graphite drawings

        • Typed the question into a search engine: “Why would one need a separate sharpener for colored pencils?

“A separate sharpener for colored pencils is necessary because their soft, waxy, or oil-based leads can easily break, break off inside, or “gunk up” sharpener blades, while different wood casings may not fit standard sharpeners. Using a specialized sharpener prevents damage to fragile cores, reduces breakage, and avoids getting messy graphite, or wax shavings from one color onto another.

Preventing Clogging: The waxy, soft core material can coat and clog the blades of sharpeners meant for dry, hard graphite pencils, causing them to stop working efficiently.”

We have access to so many answers, and yet some fail to do the most basic exercise of simply thinking.

        • That wouldn’t be a problem with my kind of artwork. Even though I could blame it for the lack of quality.
“Is that mess supposed to be modern art?”
