Hospice has a bad rap? I don’t think I have ever heard anyone bad-mouthing Hospice.
Since Hospice deals with people on their death bed, it would be hard: make the patient as comfortable as possible until they pass away. And it could be a while, like with President Carter.
Or short–when my Mom needed to enter Hospice, there was no one available. Once there was someone, my Mom was in Hospice for 3 hours.
In the sense that Hospice is a “Make them comfortable by pumping full of sedative drugs” instead of what this video is doing; letting them enjoy what’s left of their lives. I would give anything to have had the help to take dad out on the pontoon boat one more time, to have him feel the sun on his face and the spray in the wind, but instead he lay in a bed while sores festered and no one seemed to care (other family members included)
I felt my family was lied to by hospice when my mom and grandmother went in within days of each other. They definitely downplay the amount of work it is for the family members and oversell the nursing care that will be available. We had *maybe* an hour every other day of help. I’m now very skeptical of any time they offer “home care” because of that.
