Goober, Those chain locks won’t open the way you think because if your hand is through the opening the chain end is near the opening (stretched) and can’t be taken off. The door has to be closed in order for there to be enough slack in the chain to be removed. Info here.
So use a screwdriver to remove one end or the other of the lock. I have *never* seen a chain lock, properly installed, that would allow an entire hand through the door.
For cryin’ out loud, they *show* the modification to the chain to allow it.

The hand can reach past the farthest point of the chain lock, which means it can simply unlock the chain lock directly.
