Bad Bits is down

Apparently the site is using more than 33% of the shared server space and that’s a violation of the terms of service.  They say it was using 73% for more than 48 hours straight.  Yet the host advertises unlimited data transfer and unlimited disk space.  I guess data transfer is different than server percentage usage.  They say I need to remove WordPress or get a dedicated server ($99 a month) before they’ll restart it.

I’m not sure what the future holds for Bad Bits.

  1. I knew it Infi!!! You only had to look at the picture once or maybe twice…..but Ohhhh NO. I just knew that the babes in a circle at the pool was gonna blow a gasket. Sheeesh.

  2. That’s pretty shady. However, I wonder if all those “unlimited data transfer” hosts out there has this same clause. I’m guessing they do. ๐Ÿ™

  3. Circle Jer… um… View. That really does suck though, I was loving it. Except for one that I swear looks just like my sister. Too close to home there.

  4. And I turned off adblock on bits and pieces when asked to help out…… looks like goodbye ads again for me

  5. You can switch to a VPS. I use intovps.com and I’m very satisfied. For this you must know the basic configuration for a server (WHM and cPanel), but it’s so cheap because is unmanaged.

  6. A good site hope ya can make it work but the 90 a month is a killer…other option just include it here, its kinda like watching tv if you dont like what you see change channels. It is the 3rd site I check every morn ..weather…bits and bad bits

  7. I have MCS on a dedicated managed server with 1and1.

I have all of my other sites (40+) on a cloud hosted server with dreamhost. I can’t imagine what was going on with badbits that would cause that much of a problem. wordpress plugin gone rogue perhaps?

  8. Immediately switch serverhosts. Don’t even consider changing your mind. Don’t worry about backing up Bad Bits. I’ve got a complete copy of it here, and i’ll help you restore it. In fact, I just finished completely spidering Bad Bits this morning. I like to make a fresh copy every week…

  9. To answer a couple questions: Bad Bits had been generating an average of about 7,000-8,000 hits a day. Yesterday it had 19,300 hits… more than double what it had been averaging.
I’m beginning to wonder if there is something wrong with WordPress or my settings, but I’m not smart enough to tell. Maybe I need to find someone to look over my site from the back-end, but I have no idea who could do that nor what it would cost.
Bad Bits is hosted at webmasters.com and it costs me about $10 a month for hosting on a shared server. Webmasters allows any content (nudity, etc) as long as it’s legal. They don’t censor the content. B&P and Bits of Wisdom are hosted at GoDaddy.com. They are cheaper (about $7 a month for shared hosting, but don’t allow any adult content, so I can’t move it there. &P gets anywhere from 30,000 – 35,000 hits a day with spikes in the 40’s occasionally.
As of now, I’m not making anything on ad revenue on Bad Bits, so $99 a month is out. All my revenue together wouldn’t even make that acceptable. I need to find an alternative solution if Bad Bits is to live.

  10. Since none of the published comments have so far pointed out that this is April Fool’s Day, I can only conclude that this IS a joke and Jonco is just playing for time.

  11. So what’s $99.00 anyway?
    Chump change.
I enjoy this site and I enjoy Bad Bits too.
I do hope that you find a way to keep the site going and for it not to cost you too much.
Maybe adding a donation button to it? (not sure if there was one there or not).
Anyway…I believe in putting my money where my mouth is so I just bought you $99.00 worth of beer (I probably drink $99.00 of beer in a month myself so I guess I’ll just have to go dry to make up for it).
I would rather that you spend it for a month on a dedicated server and hopefully by the end of that month you’ll find a way to keep the site going whatever way possible at a cost that won’t be prohibitive.
    Good luck.

  12. Ahh this is a shame! I was thoroughly enjoying badbits and yep, visited at least once a day. Installed it on the b/friends favourites too, and he enjoyed it also.
Fingers crossed a solution is found!
