Aunt Iva update

IvaI had to leave her today in a very sad state.  She is sure she’s never going back home and is dying, which is what she wants.  I guess it’s just not soon enough.  She told me she fell this morning getting out of bed.  An assistant or nurse (I’m not sure what she is) said she didn’t fall, she just lost her balance.  It’s hard to know what happened, but whatever it was didn’t help her attitude.  She just kept telling me that she loved me and to make sure I tell all the family that she loves them.  Many times when I leave her I wonder if this is the last time I’ll see her.  I’ve never felt that feeling stronger than today.

Yesterday when my brother was there, she was remarkably upbeat.  He was amazed at how good she seemed. I was too.  Anyway, whatever happens I’ll deal with it.

An Aunt Iva story:
She’s alway telling me stories about her life’s adventures.  Wednesday she was talking about having a hysterectomy earlier in her life…when I’m not exactly sure.  I’m assuming she was maybe 30 years old.  Anyway, she said the doctor went in and did the surgery and took out her appendix while he was in there.  She said he said he took out everything except the playground.

  1. Sorry to hear about Aunt Iva. Sickness isn’t a normal part of the circle life and we know this b\c it hurts us so much when someone dear to us is suffering. This isn’t the way God intended life to be. Anyway, My heart goes out to you, your family, and Aunt Iva. Let her know I’m thinking about her and I hope she feels better soon and never stops telling her great stories.

Sincerely, Aunt Iva’s neighbor in Tampa, FL 🙂

  2. It’s hard to see a loved one go through something like this, but you seem to have the right frame of mind – “whatever happens, I’ll deal with it”. That’s all you can do, really.

Your aunt seems like such a wonderful, caring and funny person. I thought that was hilarious about the “playground”.

Wishing her (and you) well, during this emotional time for both of you.

  3. life is challenging and it sounds like your aunt has led a full and complete life. like so many i have meet she doesn’t want to end up being sick at the end of it…she is tired of being sick. yes you will miss her and yes you love her but it is her life and her wish for you to allow her to live it..stay strong

  4. Well, she hasn’t lost her sense of humor. “he took out everything except the playground”. I’m laughing here. She ain’t dead yet. Even when she does die, (we all will, and our grand kids too), it won’t matter as long as she lived it up while she was here. Like the man said. Come sliding into your grave sideways, body all worn out screaming “Whoa, what a ride!”

Wish I knew her. She seems like fun.

  5. At the end, only our challenges can redeem us – Mark Rowlands.

Both of you are gifted to nurture each other with so great love!

  6. My grandmother told me that- my moms mom- when she was 29 she had to have one and she said “They took out the baby carriage but they left the playpen!”
