That IS the problem with the way metric has been taught in the US for decades — too much focus on conversion formulas.
Just say HERE is a kilogram, HERE is a meter, get used to it.

Oh, I’m an engineer from that classic age. When the U.S. was moving to metric. In college – late 70’s – we did exactly half our problems in SAE (English), and half in metric. During Thermodynamics, the teacher made the mistake of saying “use whatever units you want!”. The best answer, next day, was in “short tons per cubic hectare”. Yeah, baby, engineers are COOL! BOOYA!
