He makes it look pretty easy.
Kyle Franklin is an airshow professional. He is the son of legendary airshow pilot Jimmy Franklin. Kyle has been performing in airshows for over 10 years has been around aviation his entire life.
Here he’s seen at an air show routine where he plays a supposedly drunk guy who can’t fly but steals an airplane and goes for a joyride.
my first small plane ride was in a super cub like that it is a 2 seater i was the third wheel so i had to sit behind the my dad in the storage area behind the back seat. as we crossed over turnigan arm out of Anchorage we hit an up draft that shot us up about 3k flipped us over and then dropped us back down 3k with a few spins and roles mixed in for fun. E ticket all the way. couldn’t talk the pilot into doing it again.
Even though Mr. Franklin’s routine is performed at a small fraction of the speed displayed by the Blue Angels, et al, great skill and airmanship is, none the less, required. Any experienced pilot watching his act can’t help but look on in awe at some of the things he does with an airplane. Plus, its funny, even to non-pilots if you’re paying attention.
Yeah that looks like the take-off I did. My wife’s cousin took us for a flight over the Colorado Rockies once. After he did his preflight check he starts telling me what to do during take-off. Within about 2 minutes I’m buzzing down the runway, did a bounce and then we were off. I flew a freakin plane over the Colorado Rockies. What a blast! I’m still grinning when I think about it.
As a fellow pilot I appreciate the tremendous skill he demonstrated.
