Fan with no blades

Fan

How fanHe is the man who brought us the vacuum cleaner without the bag.

Now Sir James Dyson has unveiled his latest household invention – the fan without the rotor.

Called the Dyson Air Multiplier, it is able to create a powerful, cooling breeze seemingly from thin air.

  1. It’s £200, which in US$ is about $350. Stupid money for something you can pick up for next to nothing. Air Buffeting? Can’t say I’ve ever decided it was a problem, let alone a problem that costs as much as a small Air Con unit 😉

  2. Yeah, who wants chopped up air? I’d pay to have my air in one piece, I’m telling you! I’m just waiting for them to come out with smoother water so it doesn’t come out all chopped up when I’m taking a shower

  3. yeah, they’re $300-$330 here in the states depending on size… i don’t think the standard fan needs that level of engineering personally.

that said, i have a dyson vacuum cleaner, if it died i would buy another in a second. this one has already lasted longer and been less of a pain in the ass than any i’ve ever had, cleans better on top of it, still works like brand new. really can’t say a bad thing about it.

  4. I have to say, I bought a dyson vac a few years back and they really are better than standard vacs by a massive margin. Expensive yes, but they last forever and could suck a struggling monkey through 30 feet of garden hose.
I really want one of these fans.
Having said that, the day I shell out two hundred quid for a fan that’s not made of magic tits will be the day they cart me off to the padded cell.

  5. I prefer my Oreck vacuum over the Dyson vacuums I saw in the store. At least mine is a fraction of the weight and works great.

I have used the hand dryers that Dyson makes and they are great.

I am not sure I would pay that much for a fan, though.

  6. That tech has been around forever. It’s just a venturi that distributes air, in this case into a prescribed shape and size, according to a calculated, dare I say, orifice. The welding and auto industries have long used this with vortex hood coolers which also separate warm from cool air, exhausting the warm and sending the cool, to chill the wearer. We used to use them to make camoflauged beer coolers at the old plant!

  7. Ten-to-one, you’ll now see Dyson “invent” a cooling bladeless fan, or “air conditioner”. Lessee, $330/$50 = X/$400. X = about $2,700 for your amazing new AC.

  8. I feel like I did when I was 8 and the Lone Ranger (yeah, I know, Clayton Moore) came to our drive-in with his new movie and his cowboy outfit was steel blue. WHAT? I always thought it was very light gray, just darker than white. It WAS on that Motorola.

I did that, too, Klaw. I just blamed it, to myself, on Jonco.
