Big Ass BBQ for real?

Bbq1There has been a lot of talk about this Big Ass BBQ.  Is anyone serious about traveling to St. Louis next summer if we had one?

I’m not wanting any commitments, but just get a feel for the possibilities.  The weekend would be determined at a later date.

  1. With enuf notice, I’m pretty sure I’d be there.

I thought the weekend of July 4th would be good, as July 1st is a holiday in Canada. I think you’d get more Canuks in with that long weekend in both countries.

  2. To support the 11 liberals left in the USA, I will be there.
DJ: please go back to the beer and taxes post and let me know what you think.

  3. I’d love to, but I’m a college student. I don’t know if I’ll be able to afford it, and my aunt and I are planning a trip to Scotland next summer.

  4. Dude, I live like 12 miles from you, and work at the big fun-factory down the hill. You know I’ll be there, as long as there’s parking for my Street Glide.

  5. Maybe we can give Kate the ol’ whip-around.
Hey Kate – if you need a ride, it’s only 700 miles out of my way…let me know.

Paul – OK…looks long…check back there tomorrow…I need to chew on that and I don’t have time right now. But thanks…looks interesting.

Not sure about pie, but there will be pork steaks. We’re famous for pork steaks around here. OK, we can have pie too. DJ’s in charge of pies.

  9. I’d be there! I ran across Bits & Pieces a few years ago and have been a devoted member ever since. I hardly every comment or post. I’m more of a click, get my laughs, and bounce kind of guy. I do like sharing some posts on my website though. Love it and the locals are funny. Great comments guys, seriously… we’re like a little family here. I’m just the quiet guy 😛

    Mmm… pork steaks…
    (checks savings account)
    *sigh*

Actually, if it was about this time next year (end of July, beginning of August) I might even be able to save the plane fare and, since I have the summers off work (from mid-july to beginning of september) it coud just work.
Stock up on pie and lager.

  11. I just found this site so not sure a n00b is invited but since I happen to live in St.Louis it wouldn’t be that far to travel. Also both my grill and my smoker have wheels!

/waves hello to Janet from Yelp

  12. If you plan for it to be on July 4th, I would be there. But we would probably leave around 8:00 or so to see the fireworks on the riverfront under the arch.

  13. I will definitely check on air fare and accommodation and I’ll have to start saving my canuck bucks now. Pfffttt, it’s only 2400 miles and 46 hours driving time. Piece of cake. (or pie for Maffu)

  14. Having been to STL before, I am aware of how hot it gets there, maybe even worse than ATL. Maybe if you do it late in August around the steel guitar convention, I would consider it. And no, I don’t play.
MikeF, my feelings are hurt. I’d be happy to join the Georgia gang.

  15. Although I’m fairly new to this site and no way I could make it to the BBQ anyways, I think it sounds like a great idea.

For those considering the trip, do it for the pork steak alone. There’s something about a grilled pork steak that’s just magical. While you’re in the STL area, try the toasted ravioli with a pineapple Vess too. Check out the STL Zoo if you have time, its free.

I’m in S. IL and my sister and her family live in STL so we visit often. Went to the Mills a few weeks ago and picked up some cool stuff for my dad at Cabela’s.

Lots to do in STL so I say go to the BBQ if you can.

    • Chef, since you’re in Southern Illinois and come to STL often why do you say “no way”?
Pineapple Vess… it’s been a while since I had one, but they’re still available. Not sure how they go with pork steaks though. I think I’ll stick with beer.

  18. I’d be down. Only if you (jonco) have attending a cardinals game planned so I can see DeRosa.

Seriously though, that would be far travels for just one day, I’d want to make a road trip out of it.

  19. Sorry Jonco, hope my “no way” didn’t come across as rude. My brother has an annual BBQ/fish fry on the 4th. It started out just as a family event but as the years go by, the crowd had grown. Its all you can eat brats, pork steak, bass, catfish and everything else you could want.

So, I should have said I had a previous engagement.

  20. Sounds like a hoot – however, our traveling days are pretty much over.
My work (retired now) has taken us coast to coast and we’re pretty much sick of the road. Sorry, bro.
