New Cook County Correctional Center, Chicago , Illinois Prison is in Austria.
(I guess if I ever break the law, I’d better do it in Illinois Austria! Homeless people should have it so good!)
Once again the taxpayer gets stung.
It also shows that in most cases the quality of life for prisoners has improved considerably from what you might expect.
And I always thought prison was for punishment.!!!!!
Just in case you ever get these two environments mixed up, this comparison chart should make things a little bit clearer:
@ PRISON You spend most of your time in a 10X10 cell
@ WORK You spend most of your time in 6X6 cubicle@ PRISON You get three fully paid for meals a day
@ WORK You get a break for one meal, and you have to pay for it@ PRISON For good behavior, you get time off
@ WORK For good behavior, you get more work@ PRISON The guard locks and unlocks all the doors for you
@ WORK You must carry a security card and open all the doors yourself@ PRISON You can watch TV and play games
@ WORK You could get fired for watching TV and playing games@ PRISON You get your own toilet
@ WORK You have to share the toilet with people who pee on the seat@ PRISON They allow your family and friends to visit
@ WORK You aren’t even supposed to speak to your family@ PRISON All expenses are paid by the taxpayers with no work required on your part
@ WORK You must pay all your expenses to go to work, and they deduct taxes from your salary to pay for prisoners@ PRISON You spend most of your life inside bars wanting to get out
@ WORK You spend most of your time wanting to get out and go inside bars@ PRISON You must deal with sadistic wardens
@ WORK They are called ‘managers’
Thanks Ronnie
This is actually in Austria.

nevertheless it makes you want to commit crimes doesn’t it
Jonoob,
I should have remembered that. I posted about this prison before. As soon as you said it I knew you were right. Thanks for the correction.
Yea this is definitely not cook county, you don’t want to be locked up in cook county
This is a real prison, but not in Chicago – or even in the United States. It’s actually in Leoben, Austria. http://www.snopes.com/photos/architecture/prison.asp
Hello Jonco!
I discovered your site 6 months ago and I have visited it every single day (perhaps not on some weekends). But I always try to keep up and read all the comments. I must say that I really appreciate the work you do here and I love this site. The first thing I do when I start to procastinate is visit b&p. I’ve become fond of the regulars, and somehow I feel I know them all, Bitsy, Bella, Infi, Rev, Scott, Ana, DJ, Deborah, KLAW, just to mention those I remember right now. I come to your blog to see the new stuff you put as much as I come to read the posts of everyone.
So I must thank you, Jonco, and everyone here in the b&p site for making my hours of corporate boredoom more enjoyable!
I shall keep visiting everyday and perhaps I’ll start to comment every now and then!
Ps. I shall warn you Jonco, that in this post you shall get more of that Snopes quotes and so, since this prision is not in Illinois. I believe it’s located in Switzerland or somewhere over there. So, I warned you. In any case I enjoyed your post about prisionVSwork, and I agree, why should I or anyone pay to sustain the lives of criminals. Since most of the time they don’t even repent or want to reform or anything. They just want to live on the government’s expense, and for that case, on the taxpayers’ expense.
Just saying…
Damn… I guess I took to long to write my entire comment to remind you in time. And yes, I remember now seeing this on your site first. LOL
Norb that happens to all of us.
Looks pretty nice, huh? But I would guess pretty confidently that their recidivism rate is much, much lower than the U.S. So maybe this approach works?
@work: you don’t get butt raped
@prison: daily butt pounding
I’ll stick with work.
The most trouble I have ever had with the law is a parking ticket. I pay my taxes, work my horrible job, post no bills, and take care of my family.
Things prisoners have that I dont currently have:
1. Cable TV
2. Three meals a day
3. Free education
4. Free food
5. no rent
6. free clothing
7. free legal help
8. Free exercise equipment.
Things prisoners have that I didnt have for many years (not including previous stuff):
1. Hot water
2. Heat during winter
3. AC during summer
4. Conjugal visits (I had to find my own thank you very much)
5. Free condoms
6. Health insurance
We need to go back to the basics. Bread, water, and forced labor. None of this nanny-state reform stuff. I could care less if a man is reformed or not, I just dont want to spend money on it.
I’m a little unclear on one thing. Do I have to go to prison to get conjugal visits? Dunno. Dayum.
isiah – you did get a free education if you went to any public school in the usa.
No DJ, but you do have to be married…
