Leapfrog

Leapfrog

Here is a little ‘test’ that is (supposedly) part of a second grade Computer class in China.  The object is to have the red and green frogs switch places.
Some figure it out right away.
Others report having to work on it for a week (or more) to solve it.

Play it here

I tried it and I don’t think it’s possible.  Am I wrong?

Update:  It does work.  See if you can figure it out before you read the comments.  Move by move instructions are there.

  1. It’s possible… I can get it to work.

I think it’s the third move that can mess you up. (spoiler coming up so don’t read it if you want to try it on your own!)
It doesn’t matter which side you start on, but I’ll use green in this case to make it easier to explain. If you move green forward, and then leap-frog a brown frog over him, make sure in the third step you move the second-to-last brown frog onto the space in front of her. From there it’s easy… make all the green frogs move forward a space, then all the brown frogs move forward, and so on until you’re done!

  2. from left to right : 1st green(1G), 2nd green (2G) 3rd green (3G), 1st red (1R), 2nd red (2R), 3rd Red (3R)
    Do the following :
    3G,1R,2R,3G,2G,1G,1R,2R,3R,3G,2G,1G,2R,3R,1G

  3. You people are smart!! I got sent this at work and it drove me nuts (half way there anyways).
I spent an hour on it (on my breaks off course) and still couldn’t get it. Obviously not smarter than a second grader.

  4. Definitely possible. The trick is never to have 2 of the same color frog next to each other.

    And I’m blonde. 🙂

  5. I got it… after twenty tries… and the 2nd time using pk.2’s instructions. Then it looked easy. But, I’ll bet I can’t do it again without help.

  6. If you can’t get it yourself just google leapfrog test answer. Similar to how Kirk defeated the Kobayashi Maru test at star fleet academy. Just cheat to win.
