Jonco Medical Update

Neck-pain-image-lvwJust a few words to let you all know not much has changed… for the good anyway.  I’ve had physical therapy twice so far and I feel worse now.  They’re stretching my neck (just pulling on my head – I think I’m a couple inches taller now) but that feels pretty good actually.  But for some reason they’re wanting me to build up my chest and back muscles (supposedly to take the pressure off my neck muscles or something like that) and right now that’s just killing me. I think I stretched a upper chest muscle too much and I’m in real pain a lot of the day.  I have to go back again tomorrow (every other day) but I’m not going to do the chest exercises.  They can stretch me, do ultra-sound or whatever else they want, but I’ve got to try to let my chest/shoulder area heal up a little before I put more pressure on it.

I’m going to be out of town this weekend.  I’m going to Kansas City for a family thing.  We’re supposed to go to World’s of Fun Saturday afternoon, but I’ll wait to see how I feel then to decide whether or not I’m going there.

I’ll make a few pre-posts for the weekend and leave you guys to entertain yourselves in my absence with an open mike or two.  I’ll have my laptop with me but not sure I’ll have too much opportunity to post while I’m there.

  1. I hope you feel better on your trip, when I work out at the gym sometimes the muscles are sore for a few days but it will get better, hang in there Jonco

  2. I know what you’re going through Jonco… been in therapy twice, first time I was worse than when I went in, been through so many x-rays and mri’s and needle/electricity sticks, etc., etc., etc.,… I’m on disability now, living on pain pills… some days it just gets to you and you want to run in circles, scream and shout but just hang in there. Some days are not so bad. Just make sure your up on your vitamin D!!! It’s been my wonder pill! I still hurt but it helps me cope.

  3. listen to your therapists. i know you know your body and it hurts, but working nearby muscles will help you feel better. don’t push yourself too hard, but work with them. i’m a doctor, and i’ve been through therapy, so i’ve seen both sides. hang in there and you will see results.

  4. Sometimes you can feel a lot better if you holler at your wife and call her names, walk the dog to a neighbor’s lawn for his poop-drop, and get good and drunk with Klaw. But hey…I’m no doctor…dunno.

  5. Best of luck to you Jonco, hope that the trip is kind to you.
I kind of know what you’re going through, I suffer with neck problems myself from falling through a window several years ago. However, I’m only now having to consider going to the doctors because of the issues I’m now suffering.
    Take care and keep safe…

  6. Jonco, the reason for building up the muscles is to provide more support for the skeletal system. Uh, DJ – What do you mean “get good amd drunk with KLAW”? Shouldn’t it be “stay good and drunk”?

  7. Hey Jonco, I have an inversion table if you wanna try that, it made me 2 inches taller and 3 inches longer. Come and get it. Oh crap, does that mean Bella’s in charge again? Do they sell beer at World’s Of Fun? LOL

  8. Jonco, you’re like a father to me.
So before you go, could you leave me a $20 and the keys to the Jag??

  9. i have the same problem. herniated discs in the neck. i have constant problems with the nerves going down to the left little fingers. they go numb. and i get shooting pains. two years of PT.

since then, i disloctaed my left shoulder- badly- broke the top of the arm bone off. mashed my right elbow so bad it hurts all the time. and had a hernia repaired!

oh yeah, and i fell off a horse, and crashed my motorcycle both landing on the left side.

    ow. quit it. LOL

hydrocodone- it will stop the pain, and it doesn’t make me too loopy. i only use it when i have to. usually ibuprophen works. just can’t use it all the time- destroys your liver or kidneys or both. can’t remember. but you CAN slam it hard core for about a week.

    my neck just cracked.

    remember- ICE IS YOUR FRIEND.

  10. Wow Storm… you make me look like a wuss. Oh, I am a wuss. I’m on hydrocodone now. For a while I was just taking one about an hour before I had to get up in the morning. Since I started PT I’m taking one every 4 (waking) hours….. and it helps a little but not that much.

  11. Jonco, take care my friend, hope your weekend is better than the week you’ve had.
Uhh, looking at your pic. ^^^I’ve diagnosed the problem, dude you have no ribcage.
Install a couple of ribs and call me in the morning, and don’t be a pain in the neck.

P.S…if Bella is in charge in your absence this time, please confiscate her whip, chains, handcuffs and Taser.

  12. 30 mg. controlled release morphine, every 8 hours with 15 mg. immediate release morphine, as needed, when the pain won’t quit. The PT only worked “at the moment”. The heat treatments, deep message, and traction felt good but didn’t last.

  13. Gary…Careful…you stepped over the line there…Obviously you’ve never been tazed by Bella, or you never would have made that demand.

  14. DJ, last time I saw Bella tase Klaw and it was awful. What with the jerking, Tourettes like symptoms and the projectile excretions from every orifice. Wait, those were the REASONS she tazed him.

I will amend my request, Jonco, please discretely remove the batteries from Bella’s Taser. Don’t let her Taze me Bro.

  15. Gary – Actually that’s the way Klaw expresses happiness. I saw him do that at Busch Stadium back in ’82. The slo-mo replay on the Jumbotron was like something from a National Geographic special. Dunno.

  16. LOL… you guys make me laugh….. and laughter is the best medicine… after real good drugs of course. And… it hurts to laugh.

  17. Off topic: Glad to see you back Tattoo Jim and I can not
imagine the pain that you are going through. Hope you had
a safe trip back. Hang in there Brother!

  18. The Jonco pain in the neck prayer:

God grant me laughter to beat the pain
good drugs that will lead to laughter
and a good watch, so I’ll know when
its time for my next dose.
