A hard boiled egg, wrapped in sausage, breaded, and deep fried. Simultaneously one of the best and worst foods on the planet! This actually looks interesting. I’d try it.
Believe me, a good scotch egg it a delight, but there are a lot of crappy ones on the supermarket shelves too.
DAYUM I want
I’ve had them. They’re great!
Scotch eggs are good but I have never eaten a fried one
If you are British this is ‘food of the gods’ don’t think you can get them state side
They’ve been selling these at the Minnesota State Fair for years. They’re really good, but overpriced, even for fair fare.
Yep, scotch eggs are gorgeous – breakfast in a ball!
I’ve not heard of them deep fried though – oven baked is more usual.
Those really look yummy.
These are the best………been a long time since I’ve had one tho’. Maybe I need to make some for us all!
Scotch eggs, nearly as tasty as chocolate covered pork pies.
I would give them a try after 12-15 beers.
Given a choice of a Scotch egg or Haggis, Give me the egg.
@Richard
Yes – haggis isn’t the least pleasant thing I’ve tasted, but it’s certainly in the same league.
That’s the one thing I miss since becoming a vegetarian – scotch eggs…Ooh the crunchy breadcrumb shell – the moist pigs meat (lips & arseholes) – the rubbery sticky egg, delicious egg.
One of the best snack foods ever. Sadly you have to go to renaissance festivals to get them here in Texas (AFAIK).
DAYUM, joanne. Sounds like you are having an OO (oral orgasm).
I thought you people ate eggs???
These things are addicting. I know of 2 places in STL that make good Scotch eggs. Growler’s Pub and Scottish Arms.
By the looks of the picture, and description, I would try one.
By the description of Joanne, not a chance.
Ah, that brings back memories. My mum made them most Fridays. Yum! I’m going to have to have go myself – I’ve got her recipe book somewhere. SHould be able to work it out though!
Growler’s Pub (in Creve Coeur and Sunset Hills) serves Scotch eggs.
jdj, I will check that out. Thanks for the eggs up man. All of the caricatures in that place were drawn by a friend of mine. I have not been there for a few years. Is the beer still cold?
a british friend made these for a pot-luck in guatemala. what a hit!
Tony, one doesn’t just have to go to Renaissance Fairs in TX to get them…your mom made them for our wedding! Um, maybe you don’t need any more weddings to get the Scotch eggs on 2nd thought…
