  1. Yep, Dubai. New home of Halliburton, formerly of Houston, Texas. You know, the outfit that won all those no bid, cost plus contracts paid for by with tax dollars? The beauty or cost plus contracts, of course, is that the company is guaranteed a percentage profit when the project is over, so the more the project costs to complete, the more the company makes in profit. But the best part of all is that Halliburton doesn’t have to pay taxes, because they’re not an American company more. A**holes, every last one of the b*stards in the last GOP administration.

  2. Have any of you ever even been to Dubai?

Paul, there isn’t one oil well insight. I’ve been from Abu Dhabi to the Oman border and parts between and I haven’t seen a single Halliburton anything. In fact, I’m writing this from my hotel room IN DUBAI.

Dubai is a construction site, not an oil field…. However, my former home of western Colorado is littered with natural gas wells, ‘Halliburton’ is plastered all over every 5th truck you see on the highway and last time I was there was the leading employer in my county. While things are tough all over, there are a whole lot more oil workers in Colorado than Dubai. Take your nose off the computer monitor for a glimpse of the real world….

Bill, Good sites, Dubai is a joke. 10 years from now it will all be covered in dust (or water). 85% of the population are foreign workers from India or the Philippines, and as you point out, they are fleeing so fast the city doesn’t know what to do!

There is no gambling, pornography is a mortal sin, and you can’t even buy a beer anywhere!!! (actually there are 3 bars in the city and an underground bootlegging ring which all have outrageous prices [$10/beer]). This is the last place in the world you should vacation. The only thing here is shopping, and 90% of the stores are the same trendy crap you find everywhere else…

disagree? Don’t post or send links, COME to Dubai and prove me wrong.

Oh, by the way, I didn’t see any video related to Dubai on this post either. That’s why I opened the comments. Cuz I’m IN Dubai.

  3. Environmentalists the world over complain about people using their cars every day, not having their houses properly insulated and other such minor indiscretions, however looking at what the Arabs are doing in Dubai is pretty sickening. Think about it, they are pumping, probably, millions of tons of sand into the sea, causing water displacement (if you remember the story of Eureka from your school days, you’ll know what I’m refering to), which would surly eccaserbate rising water levels round the world (if global warming is real). So why aren’t the environmentalsits having a go at these guys?

  4. environmentalits dont have a brain to begin with, and what about China? I wish we could take all off those dipshi*s and put them on a island…then nuke it

  5. @ Action: “(CBS/AP) U.S. oil services firm Halliburton Co. is shifting its corporate headquarters and chief executive from Houston to Dubai….. Halliburton Chief Executive Dave Lesar, speaking at an energy conference in nearby Bahrain, said he will relocate to Dubai from Texas to oversee Halliburton’s intensified focus on business in the Mideast and energy-hungry Asia, home to some of the world’s most important oil and gas markets.” From a CBS News report of March 12, 2007. It’s amazing how much of the real world you can get from teh Google. And of course, like a typical Republican, you attack the messenger when you can’t refute the message, which is that Halliburton’s move to Dubai means they don’t pay any income taxes to the US.

  6. Action doesnt know what he’s talking about! Its not London or NYC, but Dubai has the good nightlife (for a Middle Eastern Country!!) and as long as you’re not Muslim, drink is readily available – as you can see here:

  7. That will end up like Venice, Italy and start to sink over time…but unlike Venice…..Dubai has the money to rebuild
