i think it is used to test different food on cows to see how it digests in them!!!
Wow what a great way to spend tax payers money and poor cows
I always wished I had a hole like that. That way I could stuff all the bad tasting, but nutritious food right in there without having to taste it. Of course a little cake and pie would still go down the old fashioned way.

Seems to me they’ve been doing this for years–I remember as a child in the 60s hearing someone joke about a cow with a “pane” in its side
those are for artificial inseminators with really short arms
…that’s very disturbing…
But grill it up and give me some fries, and I’m in.
When I was in grade school we were taken to an outing where we got to see these. the holes are in to one of the cow’s stomach’s and we could see how far they had gotten with digesting the hay. It was at an agricultural college. You could unscrew the “panes” and take out some of the half-digested hay….some research reason I can’t remember now. I thought it was pretty barbaric and still do.
