  1. Ehh…the city sky-walk is kind of interesting the first time you do it…but yeah, bring a book. Like “War and Peace.” Or the Bible. You’ll have time to read.

But, there’s a little pizza place in Des Moines that was really good. I can’t remember the name, though. If I think of it, I’ll let you know. Unless you’re not going to be anywhere near Des Moines. Then it’d be pointless.

  2. I loved the Field of Dreams in Dyersville… but it’s probably not the same in January, I’m thinkin.’

  3. boo, it’s been shopped, and poorly too i think. The letters don’t match the angle of the sign, still it’s kinda funny.

  4. I know what you’ll be doing in Iowa in January.

Shivering and wondering why the hell anyone lives there. That’s what.

  5. Other than the rodeo in September, the only thing I remember about Iowa was the “Amana Colonies” It (they) were a German Heritage sort of thing with good food, good wine and plenty of beer. Google the term for more info and location.

  6. I live in Iowa and…there are a lot of things to do! granted i live about 40
minutes west of Des Moines, but it is a beautiful state!
tell me where you’ll be going and i’ll give you lots of things to do! besides the
    wedding that is.
John Wayne was born here and don’t forget the covered bridges! they are
    beautiful even in January!
of course the field of dreams, and a movie just got done filming in Earlham iowa
called South Dakota. If they can’t even film a movie about South Dakota in
South Dakota, and have to do it in a tiny town in Iowa, what does that tell you?

  7. There is a good live Blues bar in Des moines. site>>> Bluesongrand.com
It is located 15th. and Grand.
    “Blues on Grand”

  8. Gee Gonazar, Did you figure that out all by yourself? Way to crack the case! Of course it’s been photoshopped, who cares, it’s funny!

I’m sick of seeing everyone point out every time photoshop is used, like bitsandpieces is some kind of ‘where’s waldo’ book… THERE IT IS!! PHOTOSHOP!! I SAW IT FIRST!

  9. I went to a wedding in Omaha a couple of months ago. Trust me, you don’t need to take anything to do. Redneck weddings are something to do in their own right. Mostly, watch the rednecks get sloppy drunk. It’s entertaining as hell. (They hired a trolly to take the wedding party from the church to the reception hall. They did this so they could start drinking in the church parking lot. The bride and her mother argued over whether or not there would be a television at the reception, to watch the big football game (the bride was in favor, knowing half the guests wouldn’t be there otherwise). The compromise was to turn the air condtioning down real low inside, so people had an excuse to go outside to warm up, where the TV was.)

And I predict the little momento the couple gives all their guests will be beer cozys.

  10. Derek,

I live in Eastern Iowa and trust me, there is an ample supply of rednecks here. They congregate primarily in southern part of the state along the Missouri border. Very few teeth, lots of tattoos and a near absence of social skills.

  11. jonco,

Being from the ever cool St. Louis, you’re going to be disappointed. I hope you going for just the weekend and not the full week. If you do have a little extra time on your hands, take a trip over to Iowa City. Lots of great places to eat, check out the University and the seemingly endless supply of gorgeous college girls. There’s fun stuff to see and do and it will be the highlight of you trip.

  12. tomac: I don’t doubt it. I just usually hear the term used for states under the Mason-Dixon line. Just kind of surprized me. 🙂

  13. I live in Omaha and Council Bluffs is right across the river.
We call it Council Tucky. NEVER go to a Walmart in Council Tucky.
    Some of the rednecks migrated.
