The DB7 Chronicles; restoration

Buying a 22 year old British Exotic Sportscar was certainly not without about a dozen little nagging things that need to be done. Fortunately, because that year had Aston Martin owned by Ford, and with Ford also owning Mazda and Jaguar, there are matching part numbers across those four lines. Amazingly enough, the door handles are from a Mazda 323, and where the Aston Martin door handles are $363 each, the Mazda ones are $54 each.

    Since I have the Bond books, I know his car was a Bentley (GT convertible if memory serves me correctly).

    • funny you mentioned that. Bond didn’t actually drive the DB7 (although the DBS was based on it) but Johnny English – Rowan Atkinson of Mr. Bean fame – did

  2. Cars used to have style and function. My mother bought a 1977 MG Midget. Still has it. Needs clutch work, but I can’t find anyone to help me with it.

    But can you imagine in 30-40 years telling someone you’re restoring a 2024 Mustang? Not a cool car from the start…..

    • You are right, most cars made within the last 25 years or so will not be worth restoring.

      As for the clutch work: maybe check out local mechanics, high schools, or any schools that teach auto work. I hope you can get it running again as that would be cool to see on the road again one day.

  3. I have a 1973 Alfa Romeo GT Junior which was going to be sold for scrap. Not many knowledgable people around to work on it (I have no idea) and spare parts are a pain but I love it. I could post a picture but don’t know how.
