Maybe it’s just me, but for some of the distances, I like to change the feet to fractional miles.
For distances like 600 feet, I think that is about the height of a 6-story building.
Yeah, I get bored when I drive. Or I overthink.
A 6-storey building is about 60 – 70 feet, depending on construction.
True, but I think most in the US are 10 feet per floor. Still approximate since many have the 1st floor (or ground floor, I am guessing, for you) that have a ceiling height of 10 feet or more.
Fair enough, I’ll give you that. But it’s still well short of the 600 feet in your ‘guesstimation’. Or was that a typo? 🙂
Maybe a typo.
While driving, 600 feet is close enough that I am looking where the road I need to turn on is (especially if it a left-hand turn), so I stick with the estimate of 10 feet per floor, so a 6-story building.
C’mon, Tim… 6 storeys at 10 feet per storey is 60 feet, not 600 feet. Sorry to bang on about this, but I’ve done the same thing and find this quite funny. 🙂
You sound like me when I’m having a blond moment. Six storeys at ten feet per storey is 60 feet, not 600 feet.
I agree with looking 600′ ahead. I spent a lot of years driving while I was working – it’s surprising how much easier and safer it is when you’re paying attention.
