About a week ago I dropped my toothbrush and bent sideways to catch it before it hit the floor. I caught it ok, but the lightswitch on the wall took a divot out of my forehead.
Sometimes, it is best to let a falling object fall.
Like the rule of thumb “a falling knife has no handle,” trying to catch a falling object can cause more damage than it hitting the floor.
I used to work in a place where I used knives all day long. It’s long been a reflex to jump back when a knife falls. I saw one go through a boot and into a foot (thankfully not mine) and decided that would be a good thing to avoid.
I dropped a hot soldering iron and caught it before it hit the floor.
ONCE.
