  1. Well, Mike, if you did have type 1 diabetes, you would know it is hereditary, not induced by sugar.

    But yes, the insulin is an enabler for consuming sugar. So far, that has worked for me, too.

    • I actually acquired it way later on life, thanks to an underdeveloped pancreas and my late daddy’s time in Vietnam being exposed to agent orange.

      • Type 1 diabetes is caused when the immune system destroys the Islets of Langerhans in the pancreas. These Islets make insulin.

        Unless you came along after your Dad was exposed to agent orange, then that has nothing to do with it.

        • Yep. Pancreatitis agenesis, due to a mutated gene passed down from dad’s exposure. Diagnosed type 2 with the typical stigma of “you’re overweight and your A1C is high, you have type 2”

          Problem was, everything we tried for type 2 would work for a little bit, then stop working altogether. And the keto diet only made me sicker. Finally the wife asked if perhaps I’m type one, they do the $7 enzyme test and sure enough – I’m type one. It took so long to come about because I had basically outgrew my pancreas that never developed fully. So now I’m on insulin for the rest of my life.
