I like trying new things, and when I saw the ‘Water Pie’, I thought that will be a fun/funny addition to the festivities for an after Christmas get-together. Have any of you ever heard of this or tried it? I used some extra dough and made 2 little stockings, coated in sugar – but they overbaked. I’ll comment later how the pie tasted. -krisgo
- 1 9-inch unbaked pie shell, chilled
- 1-1/2 cups water
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 5 tablespoons butter, cut into thin slices
- Optional: a pinch of cinnamon
Sound weird… but fascinating.
Water for volume
Flour for stiffening
Sugar for sweet
Butter for mouth feel
Vanilla & Cinnamon for flavor
Update: It was good! Not a lot of flavor, just sweetness. So I can definitely see that it would be a great substitute for a fruit pie, when you can’t afford the fruit filling, and just have to have a pie. It rated about 6.5/10 for our group.
