Last Thursday morning, at a House Armed Services Committee meeting, U.S. Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Decatur) was questioning Robert Willard, commander of the U.S. fleet in the Pacific, about the impact of more American troops on the tiny, tiny island of Guam.
Wait for it… wait for it… it starts at 1:15 into the video. But it’s worth watching the whole video to see how this guy tries to act intelligent. I emphasize the word ‘act’.
What an utter idiot this guy is.
This guy can’t be for real! That is about the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.
I wonder how he voted on health care; Will he be in favor of Cap-n-Trade?
If someone asked him to co-sponsor a bill outlawing dihydrogen monoxide, how quickly would he jump at the opportunity?
Perhaps Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric will interview him sometime soon.
Sometimes people accidentally say something stupid…. just yesterday I was talking with my grandkids and we were talking about some phone numbers use letters instead of numbers, like 1-800-BETS-OFF. Then one of them said “like 1276-522”. I brilliantly said, “There’s no number one on the phone.” What I meant to say was that there were no letters associated with the number 1 on the phone, but it just came out completely wrong. As soon as I said it I realized what a doofus I sounded like. We all laughed about that. Sometimes the mouth is moving a little faster than the brain.
Maybe this Congressman just screwed up like that. But I have my doubts.
BTW, this is the guy who replaced the loon Cynthia McKinney, the congresswoman who slaped a capital officer. Seems they didn’t look to trade up when they voted for this imbecile. http://www.wsbtv.com/news/8442213/detail.html
Congressman Johnson may be an idiot, but he is actually an improvement from the previous GA District Representative, the famous Cynthia McKinney. Man, can we pick em in Georgia…
Jonco, it’s one thing to blurt out something that is absurd taken at face value; This guy had his build up with Guam’s geography to back up his genuine concern.
An April fool’s day prank had some believing that this was just some brilliant, planned deadpan humor http://neoneocon.com/2010/04/01/in-defense-of-hank-johnson/
I think that alot of folks were taken in by the need to believe that no one (especilly a legislator) could be this profoundly ignorant.
Milwaukee Mike,
had at some point in the conversation he had done anything to give anyone the indication he was not serious that would have been one thing. On the other hand, if your only defense is you were screwing around at a committee hearing with the commander of the Pacific fleet, well, you either look like a total moron, or you look like a total moron.
You have to admire the commander of not so much as batting an eye at the remark.
The state of Georgia has been electing idiots long before Youtube, it’s just now we get to share them with the rest of the world.
I guess dumb crosses party lines.
Surely that idiot was on drugs. I’d love to know what was going through Admiral Willard’s mind during that exchange.
I’d like to thank the people of Georgia for electing this MENSA candidate. OUR FUTURE is in the hands of brainiacs like this. Does he thing the island is floating?
I must have taken the strength of the entire Navy for the Commander NOT to bust out laughing.
What did this moron do before being elected? Surely he was a successful businessman or something.
I think we better start distributing the population of china throughout the world…i mean, with over 1 billion people, surely the land is going to capsize…how can a place possibly hold that many people without going down like the titanic? That is just absurd!
This jerk is on the House Armed Services and Judiciary committees. Elections have consequences.
November 2nd: All seats in the US House and 36 seats in the Senate are up for election.
yea this guy is a real idiot,we have some real winners here but McKinney was the biggest POS we had
Isn’t it sad we Georgian can actually debate as to whether or not this moron was the worst we’ve ever had, or if the last moron was worse?
Or if there were worse even before this?
All I can say is WOW. The most recent displays of politician stupidity in Canada are a twit who pitched a fit in an airport, throwing her boots and swearing at everyone (actions which would have had most of us hauled away), and at the same time, whose HUSBAND (a former politician) was let off on charges that would have had regular folks thrown into jail. Then there was the other twit who recently wanted to carry a bottle of Tequila onto a plane (bigger than 100mL) in his carry-on, who was involved in the implementation of that particular rule (less than 100mL) HIMSELF.
I don’t know which is worse, “entitled” or “dumb”. We are ALL doomed 🙂
What saves Rep. Johnson from the bottom of the congressional gene pool are Rep’s Alan Grayson, Sheila Jackson Lee, Maxine Waters and Corrine Brown. None of them can spell “cat” if you spot them the ‘c’ and the ‘t’. I’m sure that it is a coincidence that they are all Democrats…
In a video posted on YouTube, Rep. Phil Hare (D-Illinois) was asked by Adam Sharp which part of the Constitution authorizes the government to mandate that all Americans buy a private product such as health insurance.
The Illinois Democrat replied, “I don’t worry about the Constitution to be honest with you.”
“Jackpot, brother,” Sharp said.
Hare cringed in disgust…”Oh please. What I care more about, I care more about the people dying every day who don’t have health care.”
“You care more about that than the U.S. Constitution that you swore to uphold?”
“I believe it says we have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” Hare countered.
When an observer pointed out that those words come from the Declaration of Independence, Hare said, “Doesn’t matter to me. Either one.”
“Uh… uh… uh….” I just feel so embarrassed watching that. And I’m not even American.
He said, “I was using a metaphor to say that with the addition of 8,000 Marines and their dependents – an additional 80,00 people during peak construction to the port on the tiny island with a population of 180,000 – could be a tripping point which would adversely affect the island’s fragile ecosystem and overburden its already overstressed infrastructure.”
This sounds like something someone would write FOR him as damage control. This whole mitigating statement sounds too well written to have been from this doofus.
I weep for humanity; we have really stupid people up there running the show. It’s only a matter of time before this whole planet ‘tips over and capsize’.
Miss Silver,
in the video he makes the “tipping point” comment then he says, “also there are environmental concerns…” That reveals right there the two are mutually exclusive issues in what passes as his mind.
It’s spin, and poorly doctored spin at that.
Bravo Zulu to Admiral Willard for not totally breaking down in hysteria at that question.
Oh our politicians, only one to beat him is Roy Blunt fm MO, votes against Stimulus package, but attends groundbreaking that was funded by Stimulus package with him bragging about getting the money for the project.
Georgia watch out, Missouri is right behind you.
Objects in the mirror are not as close as they seem. 😉
This might be the smartest man in the global warming movement.
Here is some numbers: Guam is about 212 square miles and Manhattan is 22.96 square miles. The population that just lives in Manhattan is 1,634,795 in Guam 178,000 people live. Source: wikipedia.
Not to take away from the fact that the politician in the video is indeed a complete imbecile but… DJ’s comment includes this as a closing point “Doesn’t matter to me. Either one.” Well, just to be clear, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are indeed two different documents. The Constitution was not ratified until 1789, three years after the Declaration of Independence. Just sayin…OK, I’m officially trollin. Jonco, this site Rocks!!!
Considering the amount of people that think it’s OK to pick the lesser of two evils, as we do every election, I’m not surprised that someone this drugged up could slip through.
Very entertaining, though.
Hey. This is Dave Chappelle…
So my home state finally gets a bunch of comments in Bits & Pieces. IS it because someone from my state made come cool video that wowed people everywhere? Is it because someone from my state landed a plane in the Hudson? Is it because finally some Georgian out there broke away from the pack with some new invention?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
We get Hank Johnson, who will forever be remembered as “It Guam tip over”
Hank Johnson has hepatitis C and was experiencing some of the side effects of a drug cocktail he takes.
[email protected] feel for you bud.
I wonder if D-Ga wonders how Haiti stayed afloat after it cracked??
I hope he doesn’t get involved with out school systems.
In 2005, on a visit to JPL, Rep. Shiela Jackson Lee (D-Texas) made news by asking if the Mars Pathfinder had taken an image of the flag planted there in 1969 by Neil Armstrong.
