Gus gets a playmate

Gus meets Trixie for the first time.  They seem to get along good.  I got Trixie from the shelter. The woman there said I saved her life.  She was found in a nearby town and no one claimed her.  I took her to the vet to get her rabies shot and the vet said she is about two years old.

She’s a Wire Terrier mix. I think she’s got more mix in here than Terrier.

Gus trixie2

Her coat just changes from wiry to smooth right in the middle of her back.  She kind of looks like somebody took two half-dogs and glued them togheter.

She’s very gentle and sweet and seems to be a good mix with Gus.  But she’s only been here for an hour.

  1. That’s sweet. Someone to bring Gus out of his shell. Now I know there’s no chance of you posting him to Scotland! Looking forward to further posts as this pair create mischief!

  2. Look at Gus in the pictures, he looks so happy and secure with himself… nice girlfriend for “little man.” (I’m jealous, want a bud for my little guy too.) Have fun.

  3. Aw, bless you, Jonco! It saddens me that there are many animals out there that are abandoned and left to die. Thank you for caring about Trixie! Gus must be very happy to have a new friend!

I hope to see more photos of her and Gus in the Bits & Pieces banner! 😀

  4. Congrats to Gus and yourself on a new little family member!
Animals are SO much happier in pairs, They may fight and seem like they are fighting when they scream around after one another, tackling each other and generally creating mischief, but when one is gone, even for a day, you can see how much they miss them.
I bet Gus is peeing on the inside with happiness! And beautiful little Trixie! hehe
Thank you for adopting a shelter animal rather than from a pet store. 🙂

  5. Congrats on the new addition. Trixie can breath a sigh of relief that’s she’s been sent to a great home, and Gus can have a sidekick. Plus this should give you and Gus a break after you’ve trained Trixie how to blog! Two blog dogs are better than one! 🙂

  6. Can you post more pics, Jonco? I keep looking at these and can’t help but feel happy for you guys. So adorable and heart-warming!

  7. Awwww CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I love the requisite butt sniffing shot!!! I wish both dogs many healthy, happy, romping years!!!

  8. Gus looks so happy, you did a good thing there.

I’m sure you did save her life, my son sent me this link the other day and from what I’ve witnessed in shelters I have worked with (spent 20 years as a veterinary technologist), this is pretty much what happens to a lot of dogs (and cats) left behind…

All of our cats have come from shelters or have been abandoned (my first cat was abandoned at the vet hospital I was working at) and all of the dogs we have owned were desperate for good homes. Currently we own two Greyhounds (brother and sister) and they are absolutely inseperable, none of our dogs have ever had to be “single” for very long!

  9. Ditto to all the above. Gus really needed this and so did Trixie. Lots of doggie love times 2 for you.

  10. Congrats! I think Gus is the happiest I’ve seen him in any posts. I like he likes his new girl 😉

  11. Congratulations! I’m babysitting two of my granddogs, both rescues. The newest one was found about a year ago on the highway from Las Vegas to LA by some of my daughter’s friends. They couldn’t keep him–he’s BIG and they live in an apartment–so my daughter took him. He was skin and bones and afraid of everyone and everything. He didn’t know what a toy was. Now the two are playing together and with toys, Curtis is friendly, secure, and so happy to be loved he can hardly contain his joy. Looks like Gus and Trixie have hit it off right away.

  12. Gus and Trixie ROCK!!! They’ll be the best of Buds with a little bit of testyness thrown in just to confuse you. 🙂

  13. Jonco, you will be blessed for your compassion – I’m sure you already are! I adopted two scraggly cats from the pound years back and they’re like my kids now!

  14. She is SOOOOOOOOOO cute! I have 2 terrier mixes (well, one might be more wire-haired dachshund) and love them to pieces (plus 3 other dogs). Rescued dogs are the best.

  15. YEAH! Welcome to B&P Trixie! I’m so happy Gus has a playmate now! Congrats on the new addition to your family Jonco!

  16. Congrats, Jonco! You might be surprised HOW good Trixie is for Gus. Dogs always seem happier with a partner.

  17. So happy to see the new addition is doing well with your dog, She looks so happy! Thank you for giving her a good home Jon, God bless and many many thanks!

  18. She’s doing great Bonnie. She’s a little hyper and very outgoing, completely opposite of Gus. She’s really teaching him how to be a dog. I can see great improvement in his behavior.
For those who haven’t figured it out, Bonnie runs the animal shelter where I found Trixie.
