Last ride

I rode my buddy Mel’s bike out to the Harley dealer for his wife Janet.  They’re going to sell it for her.  It was kind of sad in a way, but it was a nice day for a ride.  I was surprised how light the Road King felt compared to Charlotte.

  1. Beautiful bike! That color reminds me of one of my guitars.

One of these days……I will have mine!

Please help the Bill the Painter Harley Fund by buying lots of siding, painting and windows from me! Of course, I can only help you in the KC area, but you’ll find nobody better to solve your problems!

  2. I’m sure Mel was glad you took it for one last spin…and I agree with DJ: I hope you took the long way.

  3. She’s a beautiful bike. I hope someone buys her who will treat her right, you’re a good man, Jonco.

  4. How touching. This really got me, I must be going soft. Mel’s babys last ride with his best friend. Chick’s right, you’re a good man Jonco. Ok, turn on the wipers…I think it’s raining.

  5. OK, I thought I was strong today when you rode the bike for me. Not tonight! I
can’t even see to type. Mel and I have great friends. Thanks again for being
there for me. I love you guys. Mel’s angels

  6. Nice bike and wouldn’t it be nicer if some one on here would buy it. I do wish some one that knew Mel gets it. And to change the subject; please, pretty please don’t read very many of John’s notes! We love you the way you are.

  7. That must have been a hard ride. On one hand, you don’t want to part with one of Mel’s prized possessions — and on the other – a person very familiar with this bike would only notice Mel’s absence. Long may she run.

  8. very nice bike,Jonco now you are getting closer to my size of bike as in something I dont have to worry about hitting the ground

  9. I have the exact bike, same color and everything. I hope someone buys it and enjoys it as much as I do. Your’e a good friend Jon.

  10. No, the handle is not in reference to my chest. It was coined by my oldest brother, and good buddy , Mel. Short for Barb, or so I thought…until my husband of 25 years enlightened me that it probably had more to do with the fact that I came along when my mom was 42!! Thanks for helping Jan, Jon, I don’t think any of us (his family) could have pulled this off!! I hope whoever buys his bike feels my brothers open heart, spirit of adventure, and protection every time they ride. I will truly miss having him show up at my house at the crack of dawn for a cup of coffee on his bike.

  11. With mixed emotions I got the word today that Mel’s bike sold. I knew it would go fast. He was meticulous with it. Best wishes for the new owner.

  12. Boo Boo, Yeah, Mel was like that. He was always early. We were supposed to ride one day and Mel and or buddy Tom (RIP too) were supposed to meet at my house at 8 am. Well at 6:30 I awoke to the roar of rolling thunder and a ringing of the doorbell before I could get my pants on. They got a kick out of that and called me a lazy ass. On our rides we’d decide that we were gonna leave a hotel about 8 am and we planned to meet at 7 for breakfast. Well when we got down at 7 Mel had already eaten breakfast and would just sit and drink coffee while we ate. Now that I think about it I rarely recall actually eating breakfast with him.
Thanks for stirring up that memory.

  13. I had a feeling all day that I was going to get a call that they sold the bike, and they did. That person is lucky to have a bike in that condition. It was sad and started the tears again. Mel always got up early because he had for years gotten up early for work. By the time we all woke up, he had already met all the people in the area. ha!

  14. It bothered me too the day you guys took it to the dealer. I didn’t think it would. It was just such a big part of who Dad was. Thanks Jon for helping Mom with Dad’s bike. I hope the new owner has just as much fun on it as my Dad did. 🙂
