Aunt Iva – Dead at 95

Iva at Bob EvansI got the call at 11:06 this morning that Aunt Iva had passed away about ten minutes earlier.

Earlier in the morning I called and talked with her nurse.   She told me that she was given 2 units of blood overnight and that she seemed “anxious”, but seemed to have settled down a bit, and was “doing OK”.

The doctor that called with the news said she had a lot of things going against her when she got there last night.  He said he thought it was just her time.  I thanked him for the “sometimes thankless” job they do and he really appreciated that.  I thanked the nurses that worked with her also.

I’ve been making all the necessary calls to relatives and friends, her residence manager and the funeral home.  She is to be cremated and didn’t want any kind of service.  I plan to take my family out to Bob Evans, her favorite restaurant sometime in the near future in remembrance of her.

I’m, going to need to go down there in the next week or so.  Her rent is paid up until March 1st.  I’ll need to clean out her apartment and collect her personal belongings.  I’ll probably be driving down this time.  Perhaps next weekend.  So there will be a few light days here on B&P.

Note:  I know there are many people who will just pass by this post, and ones like it, and I understand that, but I also know that some of you genuinely care.  I’ll try not to overload this space with details, but there seems to be an interest about her, so I wanted to share this news.

  1. No need to apologize for your post. A good reader would want to know what was going on and if they pass over the post then they are here for the wrong reasons. Sorry to hear of your loss.

  2. Very sorry to hear of your loss. It must have been obvious to any B&P reader that she was a very special person in your life, with all the notes about health and visits etc. Maybe thats why some of us like B&P, because its obviously backed by a real person. It would be an intersting post, possibly on Bits of Wisdom, to look at the world through Aunt Iva’s eyes. The changes would have been beyond amazing.

  3. Sounds like she lived a good and long life. Reading the posts up to this one, it seemed like she knew. I hope that she’s enjoying her afterlife of choice.

  4. I am sorry to hear of your loss. I know that you enjoyed your time with her, and I enjoyed your tales of your visits with her. You and your family are in my prayers.

  5. Condolences. Sorry to hear of your loss. At least you were able to spend time with her. You’ll look back at it with joy.

  6. I am the Life and the Light and the Way-
    The Earth is my Garden.
Each of the Souls I plant as seeds
Germinates and flowers in its season,
And in each I am fulfilled.
There is no cause for grief
    When a blossom fades
But only rejoicing for the beauty it held
And praise that my Will is done
    And my Plan served.
I am one with all creatures
    And none is ever lost
    But only restored to me,
Having never left me at all.
    For what is Eternal
Cannot be separated from its Source.
    I am with you all,
And each of you is a channel for my Light.
    Feel my Love
    Enfold you now and evermore.

  7. From your posts, Jonco, it was easy to see that your aunt and you were genuinely fond of each other. You have each been fortunate to enjoy that fondness for so long. May we all be so lucky as to have a relationship like that in our lives….

  8. Jonco, we all wish you the best and we’ll all say a prayer for your aunt and for you. Don’t worry about apologizing for your posts, if people are just browsing through and trying to find the funny stuff to waste time, and they don’t care about you enough to read these posts, then they need to go to some stupid website like I-am-bored.com. They don’t need to be here. Those of us who care about each other will support each other despite what anyone else wants to do, and whatever happens in your live, Jonco, we will support you as much as we possibly can.

Your aunt may have moved on now, but take comfort that she had a full and long life, and that she knew you loved her.

  9. Truly enjoyed her through you, so for that you should be proud.
Don’t stop the stories about her though. I’m sure you have a few tucked away – we all enjoy them.

  10. I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m so glad that she had you in her life. Please let us know if you need any help with expenses.

  11. Oh Jonco, I’m so sorry for your loss. She’s a woman dear to your heart and I know this must be a difficult time for you. My thoughts are with you and your family. Sue

  12. Hi Guy.
95 years! God love her! What a great run she had. Jonco, your loss is felt by us all but we have all also felt the love that you had for her in your stories.
Roll on, as she would want, and as she did in her own long life.
    Long live the Iva!

  15. Very sorry to hear of her passing. My mom passed in September. I try not to think of it as a loss because she’s not lost, I know where she went – (Heaven). Still, it is never easy.

  16. I know words cannot ease the pain you feel. I lost a dear uncle last year to cancer and so i understand. Just want to say that i am holding you and your family in my thoughts at this time, and pray that you will take comfort in the many wonderful qualities Aunt Iva had, and the treasured memories you will always have of her. I’m so sorry for your loss. May she rest in peace.
