Aunt Iva update

When I got home there was a message on my phone.  They had to send her to the hospital about 7 pm tonight..  She had internal bleeding and a fever.  I talked with a doctor about 10:30 pm.  He asked me how aggressive she should be treated.  He could go in with a camera and try to see what was going on but at 95 did we want to do that?  I told him that she wouldn’t want that.  So they’re going to give her blood and see if the internal bleeding will stop on it’s own which it sometimes does.

  1. Jonco:
Agree with Barb. At 95 y.o. the most important issue is quality of life. If she has no possibility of getting better, please consider Hospice care.

  2. What a difficult choice for you to have to make. You have been such a good man about this, and such a comfort to her. I can only hope that when I reach that age there is someone as caring as you to help me along. Seeing how you’ve helped her, kept in such good touch with her, has made me realize I need to be better to my family. I really appreciate the lesson you’ve taught me.

  3. As a tribute, Jon, you might want to post some of the events that have happened in the last 95 years.Aunt Iva was born at the closing of the first world war, lived through the depression, WW2 and a host of other events most of us know only as history. She has lived and seen changes the rest of us cannot imagine. Was Wilson president when she was born? Man, Aunt Iva’s life would make a great book.

  4. I’m so sorry things aren’t going well. She’s such a neat character and I’ve so enjoyed reading things about her. We should all be lucky enough to have an Aunt Iva. And all the Aunt Iva’s out there should be lucky enough to have someone like you to care for them. You made exactly the right decision health-wise. You’ll be in my prayers.

  5. I know it was very hard for you to make that decison. I’ve been there, and in my case it was my Dad. You do the best that you can and what’s in your heart. We want them around, but yet can’t bear to see them suffer. But yet you know they will be going to a better place and free of their worries and pain. The Lord sends us many crosses to bear, but with each one we mature more. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  6. Ron, If I forget to set a category for a post it defaults to funny. That’s what happened. I forgot to tag it as “Personal”, so it defaulted to funny. I corrected it. Thanks
