Milk bags?

DrinkmilkI just discovered that people in Canada get their milk in bags.  I’ve never heard of that here in the U.S..  We get out milk in gallon jugs.  It’s also available in half-gallon, quart, pint and half-pint cartons.  Some varieties are in bottles but that is not as prevalent as the carton.

Where are you from and what kind of containers does your milk come in?

  1. I’m from Nova Scotia and I think that bagged milk has been around here for about 30 years.
They sell them 3 bags to a pack. Some people keep extras in the freezer, and thaw them in the fridge as needed. You have to use a plastic holder for the bag. Once while on vacation in Prince Edward Island my buddy and me went into a Seven Eleven to get milk for the morning. All they had was the 3 packs of bags. The clerk opened one and sold us just a single sack. We didn’t have the plastic holder so we poured the milk into empty beer bottles when we got back to the motel. It felt strange pouring a beer bottle over cornflakes in the morning.

  2. Here in Thailand, we get our milk in cartons but you can buy a fountain soda in a plastic bag. People carry them around by the handle with a straw poking out, you can’t set it down, but you can hang it anywhere. Wish I had a photo.

  3. Here in the UK it’s plastic containers of 1pint, 2pints or 4 pints that are the main way to buy milk. You can get 1 and 2 pint cartons and you can 1 pint bottles from the milk man and some stores. Never ever have i seen milk in a bag.
