Wasp spray for home safety

Like you, I get a lot of these kinds of emails and I rarely pass them on, but this one really makes sense, so here goes:

Wasp sprayIf you don’t have a gun, here’s a more humane way to wreck someone’s evil plans for you. Did you know this?  I didn’t.  I never really thought of it before. I guess I can get rid of the baseball bat.

A friend who is a receptionist in a church in a high risk area  was concerned about someone coming into the office on Monday to rob them when they were counting the collection.  She asked the local police department about using pepper spray and they recommended to her that she get a can of wasp spray instead.

The wasp spray, they told her, can shoot up to twenty feet away and is a lot more accurate, while with the pepper spray, they have to get too close to you and could overpower you. The wasp spray temporarily blinds an attacker until they get to the hospital for an antidote.  She keeps a can on her desk in the office and it doesn’t attract attention from people like a can of pepper spray would. She also keeps one nearby at home for home protection. Thought this was interesting and might be of use.

On the  heels of a break in and beating that left an elderly woman in Toledo dead, self defense experts have a tip that could save your life. Val Glinka teaches self-defense to students at Sylvania Southview High School . For decades, he’s suggested putting a can of wasp and hornet spray near your door or bed. Glinka says, “This is better than anything I can teach them.”

Glinka considers it inexpensive, easy to find, and more effective than mace or pepper spray. The cans typically shoot 20 to 30 feet; so if someone tries to break into your home, Glinka says “spray the culprit in the eyes.” It’s a tip he’s given to students for decades. It’s also one he wants everyone to hear. If you’re looking for protection, Glinka says look to the spray.

“That’s going to give you a chance to call the police; maybe get out.” Maybe even save a life.  Please share this with all the people in your life.

And… It’s a lot cheaper than pepper spray!

Thanks Julie M

  1. Actually, my Colt 1911A has always worked well for me. It works just like the wasp spray, except for the antidote part.

  2. When I first moved out of my parent’s house into my own place, I kept a can of ovencleaner by my bed — figured that would be more effective than pepper spray

  3. My wife keeps the .45 I prefer a 12 gauge with 00 buck. but remember if you blow a perp out your door drag him back in. outside its murder inside its self defense.

  4. Wasp spray ‘may’ do the trick for longer distances, but who wants to jog with a huge can of wasp spray when you can have the real thing for very cheap??! Pepper Spay even comes in large containers that spray 25 feet. You know the OC “hot pepper” is going to blind them for a good 45 minutes, why mess with anything else?

Oh, and it doesn’t leave a sticky spray residue all over everything. Excellent!

  6. ALN: A new law in Texas now says you don’t have to drag them back into the house to be self defense anymore plus you can use deadly force to protect your car as well.

  7. this is crazy! pepper spray is maybe one or two dollars more than wasp spray. who carries around a can of wasp spray for self defense any way?

when using pepper sprays in self defense, you do not violate Federal law. it’s against the law to use the wasp spray in any other way than which it was intended. if you did serious damage to someone with pepper spray, you’d have some serous troubles on your hands.

i don’t know…why use home remedies to protect your life?

pepper sprays make home defense sprays as well…i keep it by my front door. it’s not that expensive either. i actually bought it online at a company that’s based in st. louis.
