Ah, I remember my one visit to the Cincinnati zoo (20 years ago) (outstanding zoo). There is a chain link fence enclosing the tiger compound. And a wooden deck surrounding it. Two children were chasing each other back and forth around the deck. And one of the tigers was chasing THEM inside the enclosure, only a few feet away. It frightened me. The kids didn’t notice.
“Helloooooo lunch!”
My grandma used to tell the story that when my dad was a toddler, he crawled into a panther den once, but the mother panther didn’t hurt him. My grandma used to say it was because the mother panther knew my dad was just a baby and not any harm. My brothers and I used to say she probably just wasn’t very hungry.
