Thanksgiving Open Mic

Turkey micI’ll be flying over the Southeast part of the United States on my way to Orlando as this is posted.  We’ll spend a few days there at Disney World with my brother and his family.

I’ve set up some things to post automatically while I’m gone.  I’ll try to check in in the evenings and go thru the comments and maybe a few more posts. too.

Thanks for making Bits & Pieces the success it’s been.  I couldn’t, and wouldn’t have kept doing it if you hadn’t kept coming back.  So my thanks to you all and best wishes for a happy Thanksgiving.

Now you can talk….  Gobble Gobble Gobble…

  1. Best wishes to all, even you conservative types, for a happy, healthy, holistic, harmonious holiday.

    hankful? 🙂

  2. Damn, PIB beat me to it! Anyway, happy Thanksgiving to one and all…liberals and conservatives alike. Most of us have a lot to be thankful for, even when things seem bad.

  3. Just before Thanksgiving, the holding pen was abuzz as Mother Turkey scolded her younger birds. “You turkeys are always into mischief,” she gobbled. “If your grandfather could see the things you do, he’d turn over in his gravy.”

  4. Ah, turkies. I got my undergrad at Virginia Tech – mascot is “Hokies”. . . turkies.

I tried my hand at bowhunting turkies as a teen. WILD turkies are canny, extremely difficult to hunt. I was watching this big Tom (boy turkey) coming closer and closer to me, kind of on a diagonal. He crossed 50 feet of mown grass, and I let him go behind a small brick utility building – no more than TWO FEET WIDE ON A SIDE, phone booth size and shape. He disappeared behind the building and. . . that’s the last I saw of him. He walked directly away from me, in that tiny safe zone, for 50 feet. It is humbling to be bested by such a creature.

And wild turkies can indeed fly, though they mostly walk. They try to spend their nights sitting on a branch above a stream or river, for safety.

  5. Have fun Jonco and family at Disney World and I wish I was coming with you.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone and Good Blessings for the coming year.
Happy Birthday Deborah, I’ll be thinking of you.
And hopefully Benjamin will be going home today with ice cream waiting. 🙂
