(AP) — ALBERTVILLE, Ala. – A Marshall County woman has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after police say she let her daughter ride in a box on top of their van.
Albertville Police spokesman Sgt. Jamie Smith said 37-year-old Jackie Denise Knott was arrested Sunday after police received a call of a minivan traveling on U.S. 431 with a large cardboard box on top with a child inside.
Smith said the woman told police the box was too big to go inside the van, and that her daughter was inside the box to hold it down.
Smith said Knott told officers it was safe because she had the box secured to the van with a clothes hanger.
The teen was turned over to a relative and the Department of Human Resources was notified. A worker at the Albertville city jail said Knott was out on bond Monday.

Darwin Award alert!
The box was too big to go into the van? What was it sealed with, concrete? Couldn’t this genius break the box down to fit in the van, then re-tape it back into a box when she got to the destination?
Idiot–and she bred, too.
Why all the fuss? It was secured with a coat hanger. They have very big coats in Alabama, fattest state in the nation.
Just plain stupid- she should have had at least 3 kids inside to hold a box that big!
She had a big box,….lol
WTF?!!!!! Oh…Alabama.
When asked if she was scared being in a box on a van, the girl’s only reply was: “Nope, I’m a freight Knott.”
Look, she’s throwing away a perfectly good kid….
I guess I am the only one that did something similar in my life. I was the kid not the parent. You guys are whimps. Haa
