Finding cat urine with a blacklight

Cat05Dominic M sends along this link about how to find cat urine if your cat has peed in your carpet.

Cat urine permeates the house, it can be maddening when it seems impossible to pinpoint the source. To avoid smelling every inch of your carpet, (which often deadens the senses long before you find the urine anyway), try using a UV light. Here’s how to do it.

Try using a blacklight.

Note:  The video on the link suggests that dog urine will show up too.

Thanks Dominic

  1. I’ve done this. It’s shocking. So shocking that I immediately ripped up our carpet…it was inundated with chihuahua pee. This was after being professionally cleaned etc. My husband was a little shocked to come home to a nice subfloor but he was ok with it. We ended up sealing the subfloor with Thompsons and Kilz and putting down hardwood. By the way, the dog had passed away by this time!)
