I didn’t even know there was a show called “Police Squad”. I figured that was just something silly they put at the beginning of the “Naked Gun” movies. A co-worker told me that it came out in the early 80s, while I was in Japan. So…I went to Youtube and watched all 6 episodes.
I’ve noticed over the years that the comedy shows on TV that I actually like never make it to the next season. This was one of them. I also loved “Doctor Doctor” with Matt Frewer.
No, it wasn’t cancelled due to low Nielsen ratings. Hahahaha! Nielsen!
The dumbest reason to cancel a show from Wikipedia: According to then-ABC entertainment president Tony Thomopoulos… “Police Squad! was cancelled because the viewer had to watch it in order to appreciate it.”
Anyone remember Sledge Hammer, which came out around the same time? I don’t think that could’ve lasted much more than a season either, but I thought it was great.
Then I watched an episode on Youtube not that long ago and I don’t think it aged well.

That was the best show ever. I think only 13 episodes, and cancelled too soon.
I was wrong there were only 6 episodes. Packed with so much comedy, it seemed like more.
