  1. The US government lowered the maximum water usage to 1.6 gallons per flush in new manufactured toilets with the intent to save water. The result was hundreds of millions of commodes that needed to be flushed multiple times to complete their duty, which has led to increased water usage.

Milwaukee Mike – I was told by a RotoRooter sewer guy that on homes older than about 10 years old, the sewer line running from the house out to the main sewer line at the street wasn’t made for so little water. 1.6 gallon (and less) flushes, low flow shower heads and faucets, etc, are not providing enough outflow to push the, umm, non-liquid matter to the main sewer line. They are seeing more and more clogged lines because of not enough flowing liquid. The same type of problem is occurring in septic tanks.
