A new member of the family needs a name

We picked up a dog form the shelter today.  Our last dog died in 1999, so it’s been a while for us.  He is a Westie.. a West Highland White Terrier.  He’s 5 years old and he needs a name.  Got any ideas?

Doggie2

He was originally a puppy mill dog.  He was used as a stud.  Then he went to a family with three kids and both he and the family were overwhelmed.  He ran away from home and was taken to the shelter where he’s been for about three weeks.

A few of the names that have been suggested:  Hercules, Gus, Jack, Napoleon, Max, Stud Muffin among others.  I liked Bits or Bitsy but I’m being overruled.  What do you guys think?

  1. Jeez, he is a cutie. Call him anything except late for dinner.
I’m glad that he’s found a wonderful home.

  2. My dogs have had names like Jake, Scrappy, Captain, Magoo, Harley and Barney. It just depends on your dogs personality as to what fits. Feel free to use one of these.

  3. Our neighbor in Florida had a rescued Westie named Tucker and I always thought that stuck.

    I do like Bitsy, though

  4. If I ever get a dog, I will be calling him/her Dagknee. Congrates on the new dog, his is so cute. Good on you for get one from a shelter.

  5. Good for you for giving this little guy a chance. Most folks don’t have the patience to deal with ex-mill dogs. The poor little guys usually aren’t well house broke and have pretty poor people skills. But oh my goodness, they make up for all that by being loyal and grateful little buddys once they learn to trust you, and know they’ve found their forever home. Whatever name you give him will be just right, I’m sure.

  6. Over here we often use the alphabet for names. E.g. Defer = D for Dog, Cefer = C for cat and so on. So I guess I am saying Defer. Or even Terry as he is a terrier.
I still really like Angus. Gus for short.

  7. I would name that dog Pickles, no Noodles. Topsy? Fussy? Hmmm, I think Mr. Business, that’s it I would call him Mr. Business.

I think David Letterman once said he named his dog Dammit, so he could say “Come here Dammit.” “Sit Dammit.” etc.

  8. You created the name in your 1st line…..FORM….follows FUNCTION. Since you left out the function it must be he. It creates nice shortcuts….FUNKY, FUN KEY.
Let be FUNKTION worn with pride

  9. Hey brianch – Back in my dating days, I went to pick up a girl at her house, and as I was about to get out of the car, a huge dog ran out and jumped up against the side of the car, with his front paws on the roof and his huge face snarling and barking at me thru the window. The girl came out of her house and started hollering “Get over here dammit! I said dammit, get your ugly ass over here now!” I stuck my head up thru the sunroof and yelled back, “Hey I’m trying, dammit!” She screamed back that that was the dog’s name, and he just wanted to meet me.

    We only went out once.

  10. I think you should name him Otto. Any name that ends w/ an “O” is good for a dog. It’s also palindromic, that’s gotta be worth something.
